Default Ax2 questions

So I recently picked up a used wraith that mostly stock other than links and mip shafts. But a buddy has a lightly used ax2 for 100. I plan on going brushless before to long so will I even need the 2 speed with brushless? Was thinking about saving the 100 to put towards beefing up the stock trans to handle more power.
I'm a newb so any advise is appreciated.
I will be running on trails with quite a bit of crawling mixed in but we also have some big hills.

I love mine. I run a roc412 3100 on 2s. It's got awesome bottom end and more top speed in 2nd than the stock trans would with the same motor. Get the HD output shaft for it if your running brushless. I'd offer him 75$ for it used though.

Ditto that, I run mine on brushless 3s and it works great. I second 68_f100 on the $75 offer. You could get it brand new at Tower for $130 minus a $15 coupon.

My only complaint is that there's some forward/reverse slop. I've got some ideas to possibly fix that once RC4WD get some some parts in. Stay tuned...

I'm curious what you come up with. I have been looking at mine thinking the same thing.

I run a roc412 3100 on 3s with vp trans case and all the bomb proof parts from supershafty.com I cant believe anyone would want to go faster ive lowered my gear ratio to slow it down a little I don't race mine. there is still plenty of wheel speed for climbing steep loose dirt hills

I have the AX2 and really like to have low gear for crawling, and high gear for getting to the crawl spot through the trails

Sounds like I may be fine with just beefing up the stock trans.
Looked up a few videos and I think the brushless will have all the wheel speed I need lol

Same here. My total ratio is currently about 80:1 when in low and high gear is just a little faster than stock.
