Default Wraith Chassis - Just for show?

Considering getting a wraith. Is the full tube chassis just for show / scaler appeal or does it actually provide a technical purpose? Seems like it would create a higher center of gravity and therefore be a negative from a technical / performance perspective.

Scale appeal really. And all things considered, it doesnt have too much of an impact on COG, assuming you set up the truck nice and low. It is not that heavy

"Agreed ^^^. It's really not heavy, How you set the rig up will be the big factor in regards to C.O.G. That being said the tube chassis is both for show and go. The tube chassis IS the structure of the rig since there is no frame like an SCX10. Wraiths are very capable out of the box. Hope this helps just my $0.02

The wraith frame is super light . I can see it having almost no effect on COG , that said despite being so light it does a great job as a roll cage absorbing everything, mine has had many many multiple rolls off high objects an slopes.

I still have my unused/unassembled original wraith chassis/cage.
didn't use it... 'cause I wanted something different.

for the original cage...
only need to remove 8 screws from the T-case skid
and the 4 upper shock nuts...
and the suspension/drive line are removed and stand alone.

and then it mounts up the same way on a different chassis... (albeit likely custom)

But if you might think the the stock plastic chassis's cog is excessive...
you should check out my homebrew 6th scale Wraith/TJ

fact is... it all comes down to tuning the suspension properly
for what it is... and needs to do.

Like my Wraith... prolly even more then my SCX-10...
because it's easier to build it into a 6th scale rig.
