Default Spawn vs. Poison Spyder?

Whats the difference between these two? It's hard to tell from the axial website. Which is the better one to get?

Nearly the same thing. Both have a different body, tires etc. Just pick the one you like more.

The spawn has a better ESC, better drive shafts, better spur and slipper, better radio, and in my opinion better body. Also the spawn is cheaper so if its the looks of the poison spyder you like just use the money you saved and buy the PS body and swapit out. I have both btw

I'm in Greensboro so who's opinion would you rather take? Some guy who's toilet is upside down and flushes the wrong way or me?

The esc in the spawn is a serious downgrade. Drive shafts and dual slipper are better. It really depends on what you plan to do. Plan on upgrading immediately? Pick the body you like the best.

If you have the time to build get the Spawn kit. You'll get some nice upgrades right in the box.

I have thought about the kit but this is my first rc so I need to buy tools, radio, and then all the electronics. Seems like it will be a lot more money right out of the gate than an RTR? Trying to keep initial cost under $400

I have an axial Kit and RTR. The RTR is way cheaper to get you running but you'll end up upgrading most everything electronics wise and in the front end with time. It's a preference thing.

I agree....I will have a better chance getting my permission slip signed by the boss with an RTR I think. Ha!

Its a 3 channel radio so you can run a winch or 4ws on the spawn where the PS is a 2 channel.

The Tatic radio has adjustable endpoints too, it is much nicer that the old Axial radio. I will find a use for the one I got with my Bomber.

I was looking at the Poison Spyder but then after reading this thread, I just purchased a Spawn Kit that I'll be throwing all the electronics that I took out of my Bomber into. Then I'll just have to upgrade all that cheap stuff...

I believe the spawn and PS both come with the Axial AE-3 two channel reciever. Which is a rebranded/improved Flysky 2 channel transmitter.

according to axial's website

Its part of the fun of buying one of the older Axial RTRs, you may get a Axial radio or you may get a Tatic despite what the website says.

I'd go with the Poison Spider, but that's just me. Harley has a $50 budget build videos on YouTube

I got my hands on the RTR spawn a month or so ago and it has Tactic electronics and as far as I could tell better weather protection (have accidently fully submerged it after taking a tumble into a creek and its still going strong and as the wet season has started here its getting a lot of water on it and everything has stayed dry the ESC still works and the servo hasn't taken any water internally so I can vouch for that part, done about 10 hours of out of the box running and didn't break anything ( it comes hiking with me as I can't take the dog into national parks and I can tell you the snakes on the trail don't like it to much either) but in the last week I've given it a fast back mod, alloy links, steering and heavy duty drive shafts, moved the battery to the front and an alloy servo horn, I also had the body mounted with magnets but didn't work so well so now Velcro tabs keep it on and that works awesome..

I looked for ages and went the spawn mainly because it had better electronics and was about $100 cheaper (in Australia)..

I can already tell I'm going to spend money on more upgrades and my old man is designing a hydraulic steering setup after I was joking about it one night over beers..
