Default Wraith Spawn 3D printed bolt-in battery/electronics relocation

Recently built up my Wraith kit and immediately wanted to relocate the battery and electronics. Since I had access to a 3D printer, it only took a bit of modeling and a few trials. Here it is! No cutting, simple bolt in battery and electronics relocation.

Taking the only piece out

Screwing new piece in!

I'll upload the STL files to Thingiverse as soon as they get their servers sorted out.

Just what I was looking for. Since the receiver box will be be relocated to the back can someone recommend a good Tactic servo extension cable?

I'm thinking something around 300mm like these but I'm not sure about the gauge of the wire.

Gauge of the wire for any servo cable would be fine. For complete plug-n-play extension though, you want a male to female. Check out this link. This is exactly what I used.

Thanks. I meant male to female so I updated my link. I'm placing an order.

I've been running this for a bit now and haven't had any issues with it. I'm pretty happy with the location and it doesn't seem to need any changes.

Has anyone else printed it up and tried it out?

I have and installed it yesterday. Its a great fit and uses the existing screws for mounting. I have a Axial Wraith Spawn RTR and it was the first time I took it apart and it was easy for even me.

I'm glad I did not hack up anything for a battery forward mod and went this route. Just note that you'll need some servo extension cables.

What's the low end price of a 3D printer that could print out a good quality part for this? I've been waiting for the right time to get into 3D printing it might just be now.

Best starter printers are from Printrbot or the Prusa i3 kits. If you want a good assembled printer, check out the Printrbot Play $400 (4x4x5 build area) or the Printrbot Simple Metal $600 (6x6x6 build area).
