IMO the Wraith (kit form) with included universal's
steers very well.

Clearly the Universal's travel capability
is the limiting factor here.

Tho' a standard two channel radio
likely doesn't allow for enough steering fine tuning/adjustment.
But a better TX will.

If you need more steering control
once the full steering arch/throw is set/established.

The only other option is to change the axle gears.

Realize that locked 4X axle's tend to push the rig thru corners
because both front and rear axles drive at the same speed.

Changing the front axle's R&P gear to less teeth
will net more steering capability.
Because the front tires will spin faster then the rears.

search axle underdrive/overdrive to know more.

-------

another thing that effects the steering is...
the tire's density or being too soft. (proper foam inserts control this)

Too soft and the tire will deflect/scrub more, reducing steering output/control.

While a stiffer tire will steer better.
It will also lose some traction qualities.

So realize that having softer or stiffer tires can often be a trade off.

The SCX/AX10 housing XR mod will not give you any more steering than you have now. The universals can only go so far before they start to bind. If you want more , you can modify the universals to give you a little more but that weakens the integrity of the universal IMO. Dlux sells pre modded universals that he claims to give up to 70* of steering.

Replace the gearing in the differentials. Either stock HD bevel in the front with underdrive in the rear, or overdrive / under drive. This will allow the front wheels to spin faster and pull it around.

The xr mod will give you a lot more steering than the available shafts for the ax axles can. The problem is you be running into the links and shocks long before you run out of angle.

It started out as an axial xr-10 axle which has the same C-hub and knuckle design as the axial AR-60. Instead of using a universal or dogbone, he used whats called a double cardan. The short explanation is he stuffed two cva joints in between the C-hub and knuckle which allows for more steering. If you page through his thread he has some pictures of it or you can google double cardan. Yes, you would have to move the links to use this amount of steering but it does answer the question of how to get more steering out of the AR-60

Yep, the xr mod will add steering to the ax axle, but you can't really xr mod an ar60......unless...you add an xr10 gearbox between ar-60 tubes....that's not really on topic.. [/sarcasm]

Most 1:1 4 wheel drive trucks use double cardan shafts for the front driveline. Whether that's an application that can be used on a crawler or someone makes them..Not sure.

Dammit.
I read stucks's post and my head went xr mod not existing ar60. Which is the way I got here. Ax, xr modded ax and now all the good bits from the ax axles are in ar60's.

Yes, but did you even look at the thread I linked? EGRESSor used a double cardan to get more steering. a tuber

This is what he is using instead of a universal or dogbone

This is a pic of the amount of steering.
