Default Parts Bin Wraith for the Little One

Picked up a used Wraith Spawn for my daughter a few weeks ago. It was mostly stock with the exception of a supposedly metal geared transmission.

While I was making panels I fabbed some hood pins out of Losi 1/14 Rally stub shafts...

Somewhere along the line it got some .475 SLWs I had in my parts bin.

I got sick of the sloppy steering so I bought STRC links and an Axial servo horn. For some reason I had some serious Toe-In without those spacers. Maybe I didn't have the correct rod ends. Oh whale.

I also had a set of barely used HD OD gears so I slapped those in the front diff while I was at it.

And here are some random photos and videos....

She's a good driver!

Will post more soon.

Default Parts Bin Wraith for the Little One

The Tactic servo died just like the rest...
I disassembled it and found that the plastic center gear was stripped. I happened to have a 645MG with "issues" laying around so I popped it open and found that it's partially metal center gear (?) would fit the Tactic. It's a bit noisy but I need to regrease it.

Upgraded gear installed.

Decided to try out my stock Yeti RTR trailing arms on the Wraith. The wheelbase is right at 15". I know there's a U4RC class it will fit into if we ever get it going around here.

Pinched the rear to keep the shocks outboard without any rubbing.
It's ugly but it works.

Definitely a HUGE improvement in handling. The rear uppers are some spaced 98mms with long ends. Front lowers are also Axial links I had laying around.

Put some cheap eBay lights on the bumper. The housings are rod ends with something from the parts bag CA glued to the front. The LEDs press fit and work great so far. I backed them with liquid electrical tape to focus more light forwards.

She snapped the ball right off of the short side front dogbone during what seemed like a light bind. Then I let her hot rod around in three wheel drive (bad idea) and she ended up SMOKING the BRXL I had powering the stock motor on 3s (w/CCBEC). It looked like the first few seconds of a smoke bomb haha.
Replacements are on the way.

Put some Boom Racing Kronik Tubes in the axles today. Excited to see the performance improvements!

Ended up ditching the sloppy aluminum panels and mounted a spare utilizing a worn out SCX10 cv stub, the brass backing plate from an old guitar pickup, a body clip, a rubber grommet and some misc hardware/zip ties.

This photo shows how I only use the face of the Axial wheel for the spare.

I got new shoes for my Yeti so I put the Krawlers/wheels on this.

That's basically it for a few days. Stay tuned!

Thanks! She is having a blast! We race around my mini U4 track in the back yard. The Wraith is waiting on an AE-5 and an RC4wd 20t at the moment. Hopefully they'll last a while. I may gear it down a tad.

Yeah Sam, this rig is coming along well for her. She's a good driver. You need to bring her to a comp and let her best up on some of the guys.

Yeah I wish I had a freakin Wraith when I was her age!! Lol.

She's constantly asking about the next comp. We are planning on hitting the closer ones in the upcoming months. I'm thinking about having her practice driving through gates to get her prepared.

It's cold but she wanted to test it out for a few minutes. Definitely a noticeably lower COG thanks to the Kronik Tubes (duh!).

Easy way to drill tranny holes in the bomber skid...

Almost done, sorting out front links. I need to get Wraith/Bomber specific front at least because the ones I'm using now aren't cutting it.

Flexin Friday!!!

Gonna have to upgrade her servo to at least a Hitec 5645MG.

Anyways, she loves it!!!

After her servo died I put my Yeti up and we worked on ridding the course of some menacing bind-up spots.

How did you mount your battery, as to i just got the rtr spawn kit 2 days ago. First thing i wanted to do was relocate the battery tray forawrd; but sadly couldn't find a secure way to mount it. Any suggestions? Pics?

Thanks-Kaleb

Looking good, how is the fitment and quality of the kronik tubes? I have been thinking of picking up a set for my el cheapo build.

Cheers,
Wade

Thank you. The Kronik Tubes are fine for the price. I had to take my exacto knife to remove the burs from the link mount slots and threaded holes. Otherwise they are great.

No problem. I gotta get a better servo for this thing, but I'd also like to get her a Bomber for her birthday.

Bent the front uppers for driveshaft clearance.

Did some siping on the RTR Krawlers.

Thankfully the Bomber skid pulled the WB back to about 14.9". I guess the RR10 has different link mounts on the axle end because the Wraith axle connected to the Yeti links connected to the RR10 skid make the pinion point slightly downwards. The rear doesn't have enough travel to make it an issue though hahaha.

I never saw your post man, I'm sorry. I actually had the stock tray crammed up front but once I installed the Bomber skid with Wraith tranny, the spur/cover takes up most of that space. I'm currently brainstorming where else to put it.

She definitely is! I think I've done a good job so far on keeping the budget for this one nice and low and it should be beefy enough to hold up for at least a few months before any catastrophic failures haha.

Snagged a 5645MG for the Wraith today.... Achieved my goal of fixing it the week she's at her mommas. Also fixed my Yeti so we can have some fun this weekend with working vehicles!!!!

My LHS carries Hitec but no 24t clamping servo horns. -____-

Very nice. It's cool to see you're daughter is interested in sharing this hobby with you.

It doesn't seem like anybody has luck with Tactic servos.
