Savox 1230sg. I love mine. I'm a fan of buying more than I need so I don't have to buy again. An aluminum servo horn is a very good upgrade. The axial one is very nice imo

^ X2 - on that Savox SA1230SG = 500 oz/in of torque @ 6v Like both of mine and run them in a 2.2 as well my 1.9 rigs about $ 69. most everywhere low buck for a servo of this magnitude. Also an alloy "clamping type" servo horn such as what Axial sells. Of course you will need ensure that the steering links are no longer the original flexible plastic junk and have been upgraded to metal links to net the proper steering capability out of that 1230 If yer looking for a low buck/cheapo replacement servo... my reply is not for you. 'cuz I wouldn't waste my money purchasing one. Last edited by TacoCrawler; 03-05-2016 at 11:23 PM. |

I use a hitec 7954SH high voltage servo and been very happy. It's got enough strength that if the front wheels are "stuck" and rears are free it will move the whole ass end of my rig around. It's rated for 7.4 volts . I've got my BEC set at 6.0 just to be on the safe side. I would say at 7.4 I would probably end up breaking something just from the torque.

Make sure to pick up a BEC to get everything out of what ever servo you decide on. I know HW makes some cheap high torque servos that I've heard good from a few members but I would stick with a trusted brand.. |

Here is the problem with running a really strong servo......they tend to break the stock knuckles and c-hubs so plan on getting aluminum everything. It is worth the money buying a good servo but plan on spending $100 Don't want to bash savox but every 1230 I have seen has had a problem centering so they are a very noisy servo. get one that is waterproof....it will happen one day, it will get wet and you will be sorry |

You can waterproof a servo in 5 minutes with a can of spray on plastidip. I went Hitec 7950 and will never look back. Amazing. Plan on buying a BEC too, any decent servo will be power hungry and seriously tax your ESC/cause brown outs. |

I use Savox 0231 with glitch buster good enough for me and waterproof..$37 200oz torque..I don't do anything hardcore but what they suggest is better pending on budget.

Well I will chime in again....I take it you had the tactic tsx45? were you happy with the power of the servo? If yes I would recommend a Protek 100T. The tactic has 150oz of torque and the Protek has 215oz. the Protek is quiet and smooth and doesn't need a BEC....as for reliability? I raced it in a SCT every weekend for 1.5 years and it has been in my scx10 for 7 months and it goes out every weekend for 3+ hours. Never had a single issue. It doesn't claim to be waterproof but I did submarine it once by accident and by the time I pulled the rx apart to dry and got home it worked just fine. At just over 200oz its not super strong, there have been times that I get into a bind and cant turn the wheels. But that is a good thing, keeps me from breaking stuff. It was the best $50 I have ever spent....almost ProTek RC 100T Standard Digital "High Torque" Metal Gear Servo [PTK-100T] | Electronics - AMain Performance Hobbies - AMain Performance Hobbies Now I just got one of these 420oz-in v3 Just had it out yesterday for the first time and it was great, smooth silent and so strong....and waterproof. I did run it around for a bit on 6v with no BEC and had no brown out issues. Even at 6v I was glad the axels were beefed up. At 7.4 it is a beast. Hard to recommend it yet without much time on it. |

Not trying to start a fight but I do feel your opinion is a disservice to anyone looking. Quote:
That said... broke 3 of my Honcho's plastic S knuckles utilizing the stock crappy rtr servo that it came with. Every failure was with the S knuckle's steering arm. Not an impact... just a fail. IMO the SCX-10 plastic S. knuckles are much weaker then what my Wraith's S knuckles are. engineering design/production flaw IMO tho' I would still agree with your opinion... that it's a good idea to upgrade to alloy C hubs/S knuckles. As many users are hard on their stuff and plastic is simply... plastic. Fatigue is likely to happen sooner then later. Quote:
What personal experience do you have with the Savox SA1230SG ? excluding what you think you might know ? My 1230's are no louder then any other digital servo and they center, to quiet, just fine. But if there were any bind/restriction in the steering... then any digital servo will produce excessive noise when attempting to center. I think it wrong to discredit any servo... without having first hand experience. That said... there are million reasons why a servo can fail. But only a few will admit to their fault or abuse of it. I've killed more then a few... and tho' I could fault the servo's construction... It's more probable that I wasn't real nice to it. | ||

yea you got me on the 1230.....I should not have said every servo It seems to be the servo of choice with the guys I run with and every time we are all stopped you can hear one or two buzzing. Does that make it a bad servo? No just annoying. Why do some have a hard time centering? I don't know, could be operator error, most everything that get broke is operator error. I don't need to own the servo to see it sitting on flat ground with the wheels straight hearing it try to center Yes the Wraith is a bit beefier than most and I can honestly say I have never seen a servo break a stock wraith....but I have seen a 1230 break a stock scx10....was that operator error? when you get bound up and try to steer things can break....when you have a strong servo it can be very hard to tell if its bound up. hey man we live close enough I am sure we will crawl together soon if we haven't already |
