Default My Crimson Crawler Project

Well this is my first crawler type RC First RC kit as well, and it's an Axial Wraith Spawn. For the motor and ESC I got a 27t Holmes hobbies torquemaster motor (I didn't realize the motor didn't come with wires, hoping my LHS has some) and a Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL Brushed ESC (Waterproof). I did get a few upgrades like the Vanquish titanium links upper, lower and steering. Also got a new 4 channel radio coming too. Got some hot-Racing stuff coming too hoping they will show today *fingers crossed*....lol. Now for a Couple of Pixs.

These I was a little disappointed in the size I didn't realize that RC4WD made an XL version that still fit the 2.2 size wheels till after I bought these, the stock tires are bigger......but I'll use them none the less.

Kind of a panoramic view sorry it's a little dark.

And so starts the build

Hope you enjoy the build as much as I will..lol.

Two are plastic along with the spur. If you're thinking about upgrading the transmission, go to Supershafty. Or just get the hot racing hardened set.

Shock maybe an upgrade to get soon the stockers seem kind of flimsy.

I also ran into a problem with the hot racing 56t spur gear.

Says it's a direct replacement bit the pads don't really fit on there and the plastic piece that goes in the middle of the stocker doesn't fit in the middle of this spur. Am I missing something or did I get the wrong spur?

The spawn has a different slipper than the other wraiths. The top shaft is also different. The old one uses two pins on the top shaft and the one only has one hole plus a flat spot. I had to order a different top shaft to change out my slipper along with a little fab work.

Well rats, guess I'll just use the plastic one then for now and sell this one. Of course they had to make them different just my luck. Thank you.

Well the set screw for the Robinson racing pinion gear is junk it's stripped out. Wow. How do you get a set screw out that's stripped?

Well I got the tranny in.

Motor is in and wired

Cage is done and installed

It seems that the diff casing is tilted down to me probably hard to see in the pictures though seems to go up and down and side to side ok.

Well all put together and runs yay...just need to do the body. And make some adjustments.

One thing I noticed probably not a big issue but in the front when all the way down the bumper hits the servo before the shocks go all the way to the bottom

RRP uses standard set screws, you need a 1/16 wrench for them. A 1.5mm (I'm assuming that is what you used since every other screw on the truck is metric) wrench is undersized and will start to spin inside the head as soon as it meets some resistance.

Get the right sized wrench and you shouldn't have a problem.
