tie rod droop....
 
how are people stopping the tie rod from falling down? I want it to stay up for clearance. I have the blue monkey steering

I use o-rings on the pivot balls. Don't know if it will work with the Blue Monkey steering, but I can't see why it wouldn't if it's using pivot balls.

Hard to see in this picture, but there's an x-ring o-ring between the lock nut and the rod end. It slips over the small end of the pivot ball.

I basically turn one of the ends up and the other down so that there is no pivoting motion. If that makes sense. Harley explains it in one of his videos he just recently posted.

The O ring is a good idea, I may have to try that. I just replaced my rod ends when I did my universals. There was tons of slop after about a year of running. I have a feeling though no matter what you do, after enough use the ends will wear out and have to be replaced.

This is what I do. Basically push the tie rod up to where you want it. Then using a set of pliers turn the rod end down, while still holding the tie rod, this will make the tie rod stay up. I have had no issues with knuckles turning etc. when doing this. I have run plastic C's and knuckles for over a year, zero issues. So its not stressing anything noticable IMO if you're worried about that.

because I'd prefer that the steel balls in the ball ends
have full articulation during steering movement...

I just put a small drop of CA or Locktite on the link-ball threads
and tighten those down with the link in a more upright position.

Twisting ball ends so that they oppose each other might hold...
but doing that can also bind the steering servo slightly at it's max throw.

I actually bond the ball ends to all my links ( Str'g and Susp. )
because my angled susp. links would tend to fall or drift downward due
to gravity or impact.

Gluing those... keeps my angled susp. links more upright.
and keeps the steering link bend to the higher side in front
of the axle's center chunk.

Just a little drop... not a crap ton of glue.

I use a small rubber band on the draglink end, holds it up and flexes as it moves, not had to replace it yet.

Do they need the full range of motion though? I leave it so it can wiggle a bit but not flopping around.
