Default Forward battery mod DIY or buy?

So the wraith RTR is apart awaiting a WP Holmes combo. I want to mount the battery forward but can't decide if I should buy a plate or fab something up. I'm looking to the experience of others that have done it as how to proceed.

If I'm going to fab something the existing battery box mounted and chopped for top load seems the way to go. I'd like to keep the existing radio box close to stock position so I can mount my castle BEC inside to avoid having to waterproof it. I have conformal coating to do it but reading the label it seems to be toxic to everything that walks the earth.

I haven't decided where the ESC will go and I'm concerned with wire length. Not sure if I can extend the BEC power wires but since they are small gauge I don't think extending them a bit will cause resistance issues. Maybe park the ESC in the stock battery position and extend as needed.

I have a bunch of .012 aluminum to make mounting plates. The 5000 mah batteries I run makes me have to mount the radio box more to the nose. I am concerned with clearance issues with the steering servo. Will removing the front screw mount and moving the box .25-.375" forward work? I'm thinking of removing the rear box standoffs as well and just mounting it to a plate with servo tape. How much clearance from the servo (HS-7955TG) to the stock box placement is there? If anyone could give me a ballpark measurement it would save me from putting everything back together to see.

If buying a mount is the best option what one should I go with?

I just used the stock rear tray and modded it to the front under the hood. I looked but could not find a link. Do a search, its somewhere on here.

Here is my Mod

Lol. Ya I know. Only pic I had. But you get the idea. Here is a thread I found. The mod involves cutting up the rear stock tray, mounting it up front there under the hood. Best part.....it's a free mod

Nice, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I am thinking of trimming a little less off the stock box but it will depend on how hard it is to get the battery in. I've already made a template for a plate up front to mount the radio box. I am still wondering about the clearance on the servo.

I was also wondering what most people do about mounting the battery up front

I'm in the process of making up templates for a new radio tray and possibly body panels tonight. The metal I have here is too thin to create a battery tray so chopping the stock mount is on the list. If the beer doesn't interfere I'll try and post some pictures later.

I'm trying to avoid removing the crossbrace as it probably adds a good bit of torsional rigidity to the chassis. I know in road racing a nice stiff chassis helps a lot. I'd expect the same to hold true on the rocks.

I laid the battery tray horizontal vs vertical. Drilled some holes added some velcro and use the cross bar as an extra hold down.

Found a template at Harley Designs for a front battery tray. I took Harley's design and modified it a bit as I wanted ends in the tray.

Part of the center console sticks into the area where there tray goes. I trimmed it at the floor and just folded them back so I could slide the tray into place.

I painted mine with Duplicolor Truck Bed Liner

Here's mine. I can fit the hard pack in mine if I run one connector up and one down. Pic explains it better. The palate I got from a buddy of mine.
