| Dig unit
Trying to decide if I should build my bombproof trans with the wraith case so I can use dig unit or if I should use the scx case. Can someone explain to me what the dig unit does and if I should use one.

I did a thread on the dig unit and the effect on turning radius. Updated:AX30793 Dig upgrade shipped. -- Turning Radius Measurements Posted. If you are trying to build a bomb proof transmission I would not use the dig unit. It doesn't hold up too well to brushless power. I used the HR Wraith Transmission case when I do a bomb proof transmission Wraith transmission. |

I use a dig in my wraith with a roc 412 3100kv and it works good the main thing is to have the end points set right for the servo. If your a basher it probably wont hold up to well. I uses it with the rear locked to help get more control when going down rocks that would other wise throw you off. It also helps in tight turns. In 2 wheel drive the front will spin to help you get over some holes that the rear wheels would get sucked into if they where trying to drive. Its nice to have if your rock crawling over some of the worst rocks. |

So it either locks the rear wheels so they don't turn at all or also allows them to turn without actually driving?

You can set it on a 3 position switch so you have 4wd, fwd, or fwd locked rear. I have done it that way on a wraith and now on one of my scx10s and it works great.

Out of idle curiosity how often do you bother to use FWD only instead of dig? I could see it maybe being used occasionally on climbs to stop it pulling the front end up but is it any advantage anywhere else? | ||

I use the freewheel mode quite a bit if the rear keeps driving the front in a direction I don't want, or if the suspension wants to bind up. Also If your on a climb and the front tire keeps lifting, you can let it settle down by going freewheel without losing ground. It's something, the more you use, the more you use.

Yea that sounds good... So I am going to use the wraith case so I can add a dig when I'm ready. What dig is a good one to use? Are they difficult to put in and program?

I just went with the standard axial unit and an old traxxas servo I had. Just use a third channel and set your end points. It doesn't travel very far between modes so turn the end points way down before you start to set them. I think I'm around 20 in each direction and it's 2 steps in each direction. I have a futaba btw

And how do you have it move to each step? Do you have to program a radio button to move the servo 2 steps? I am sure there is a video on youtube somewhere how to do that.
