Default New brushed motor? Or is it time to move on?

I need motor advice for replacing my stock Axial 20T motor. It failed while running along the lake shore splashing in the water (all my electronics are waterproof). I'm actually quite happy with the 20T stock motor as far as the performance I need, but really don't feel like replacing it every time things get wet. So, is there a better brushed motor that can handle getting wet? Or do I step up to brushless keeping in mind that slower speed crawling is my goal?

All brushed motors can get wet, it was probably gearing and heat that killed your stocker.

If crawling is the goal, a brushed motor in the 27-35T range combined with dropping a few teeth on the pinion will suit you just fine.

Totally agree, get a rebuildable brushed motor and you should be fine. Love my HH 27t torquemaster, 13t crawlmaster is also an excellent option. Run over a year, one set of brushes

I'd be real surprised if I had a heat related issue, since I have 15/90 pinion/spur + SSD 2-speed transmission, I wasn't running it very hard at the time, and there was a lot of liquid cooling at the time. Maybe it was just the old stock motor's time.

So I'm looking at the Holmes Hobby website looking at the Torquemaster, and they want to know what Rotation (Forward-counterclockwise, or Reverse-clockwise) and Timing (0º, 6º, or 12º). ??? I have no idea what's best for my Wraith. Holy cow, I've been doing RC for quite a long time (nitro mostly) and I feel like a total newb...

Open the old motor up & you will most likely find the brushes are gone. Rebuildable brushed is a good choice. Just buy quality.

I think im at 6 degrees. maybe 12, but you can change it, easy, just loosen the screws and rotate the end

The site recommends 6 degrees - well it says it is "popular" - but doesn't say anything about rotation. I'm guessing "rotation" means which direction the motor spins that has the best speed/torque, but I have no idea which direction is best for a Wraith. If this is dependent on the timing (eg. +6º is good for forward and -6º better for reverse) and this is something I can adjust myself then I guess it doesn't matter which one I get. Right?

What kind of wraith? Some are reverse, some forwards

You can adjust, so it doesn't matter if you ensure its done right for your rig.

This would be the original Wraith. AX90018 on the web site. I didn't realize there was different configurations beyond the body style.

I believe you can 180 the skid (for what reason, i dont know) which would leave you with the motor facing the opposite way. Also, some axles on the market require you to flip the ring & pinion gears opposite from stock. Either of these would be reasons to reverse motor rotation.
