I'm in the process of upgrading my servo and I'm wondering do I need an external bec if I'm just running a 2s battery?

Depends on if the servo you're installing is rated for 7.4 volts or less. If yes then you will not need a bec.

Personally, I'll never run a rig w/o a bec. I've had too many brown out issues without them. |
