Ramdomly drives in circles
 

Hey All.
Hoping for a little help.
My wraith has started randomly turning hard right at random. If i flick the switch in the radio to opposite steering will go left instead. Still is the factory ratio reciver and servo. The servo is half flooged out and i do have a new one in transit.
Forward and reverse have no issues. Not sure if its some sort of interference. As i have not had a chance to drive it else where.
Im fairly new to the RC gig so please keep it simple for me haha

If you're already convinced the servos on it's way out it's likely it could be skipping gears internally & not being able to find it's centre properly.
Also appears to have a plastic servo horn, they tend to strip way easy as well.
How does it feel turning the steering by hand from a front wheel?

Feels normal except right at the end where turns easy both left and right. Cant see horn slipping on splines
But do have a new horn coming with it

Servo arrived just plug in and turned on with out fitting servo. Still jolting around, also noticed does it more if i tap the radio controller above the steering pot. Maybe a stuffed pot

My guess is there is not enough voltage to supply the servo.
And possibly that the reciever is being starved.

Stock e set up ? What servo ?
Does the servo plug into the RX ?

Using the Holmes Hobbies RX by-pass combined with an adjustable external BEC
means the servo is fed directly from the primary battery
and the ESC's internal BEC supplies the voltage to the RX.

^ generally a good idea if using higher voltage/torque steering servos.

I agree, it sounds like a voltage problem, or a Rx/Tx problem

It sounds like the steering channel (potentiometer/rheostat) on the radio is dying. I think this, because the servo responds when you change the channel reversing direction. This makes me think that the radio is sending a false signal because it thinks the steering knob is turned all the way to one direction when it isn't (i.e. a false reading from the potentiometer/rheostat that tells the radio the position of the steering knob). When you flip the channel reversing, all it does is flip the radio output for that channel, hence the false reading goes in the opposite direction. Alternatively, it could be the receiver, but not likely since the throttle still responds fine. Do you have another Tx/Rx combo you can toss in there to see if it resolves the issue?

One thing you can try to narrow down the issue is to plug the ESC into the "Batt" slot on the receiver and then plug the steering servo into the slot where the ESC was (Ch2). Then use the throttle on the radio to see how the servo responds once everything is powered up. It should center and turn itself back and forth according to what you do with the throttle. If it works, you've at least eliminated the servo from the equation and can focus on the radio/receiver.
