| Rock bouncer vs. Low range crawler
Howdy, I just recently picked up a wraith rtr and other than replacing the servo and servo horn due to hucking jumps it is fresh out of the box. I am looking at all the options for what to modify and it seems everyone specializes between either crawling or rock racing. If I have to choose between the two I think I'll end up building a crawler, but right now I am having a blast doing both. I have set up some gnarly flexy crawls in my yard with the woodpile that require precise throttle control and tight turns where I barely get the tires spinning to make it through. I also have a steep, dusty hill in the yard that I climb full throttle-hammer down where the tires are spraying gravel and the truck bounces side to side, but eventually will climb. In a perfect world I'd have an SCX10 and a Yeti, but I could only afford to work on one so I got the wraith. An I screwing myself by not specializing or can I eventually modify my wraith to excel at both? This is my first RC car since I was 10yrs old and I'm having a blast taking it apart and ripping and rolling it around the rockies. Thanks for your help! |

Without making a bunch of changes to alternate between both... the only viable option is to utilize a 2 speed transmission. I believe that 2 speed trans is available thru RC4WD called the A2 or something to that affect !? I don't know how durable it is tho' https://youtu.be/fj_uEbKtZyY otherwise retaining the stock transmission will find you gearing lower for crawl speeds... and gearing talling for wheel speed. I'll suppose the goal is to gear it inbetween so that you can crawl... but still have some wheel speed. I personally gear for the slower speeds... but still retain enough wheel speed to get up looser traction hills. But my top speeds never really exceed maybe 6 mph. Excessive wheel speeds just throws up more dirt and rocks when climbing loose terrain. Doesn't necessarily mean you climb up any faster. Now if ya make a run at it and hope to climb using momentum... the higher top speeds will be your game. If I ran a 2 speed trans... I'd likely gear it for slow... and slower But it all depends on what you want. |

A single speed trans can do everything with the right motor and battery selection. My bouncer crawler very well with a 2350 4 pole 1/8 scale motor on 4s. It would blast hills and jump nicely too. No extra bs, just a solid combo.

Id put 87t spur in and move the battery forward then call it good if you want stock driveline parts to last
