This will be my second Wraith. First is a Spawn I parted together from a 1/2 dozen various vendors. This one will be similar.

It's a used Poison Spyder chassis with 'the hood' mod already done. Unlike my Spawn, this one has a full interior which I plan to use with some kind of scale baby doll when I happen across a good one.

I don't like the color scheme so I peeled the stickers off and wrapped it with some 'automotive grade' vinyl from fleaBay. This roll wasn't as good of quality as the white I used on my Bomber. But it heats and stretches OK.

Roof and hood wrapped up.

I still need a tranny, links, and driveshafts. But other than that it's ready to go. I've got enough stainless rod and rod ends to make links. But the shafts and tranny I'll need to order.

Has anyone tried to use a Bomber or scx10ii tranny in their Wraith?

Unless you want a 2speed; I'd sure prefer an scx tranny or wraith tranny any day over the bomber or scx2 one. Not to mention the awesome brushles setups pretty much render 2 speed useless. In my opinion anyway. Cool Wraith!

A correct tranny would have less issues to deal with and likely better. So one has been ordered.

It looks OK. It could use some backing on the white insides of the panels. I'll be looking for a matte olive drab for next time.

I found some matte 'Army Green' and it'll be ordered soon.

I made some of my links today but ran out of RPM ends. So off to the hobby shop tomorrow.

Taking inspiration from White Trash's freebie Wraith on the 1" wide wheels I dug mine out. Mounted some spare Axial hubs and some tires.

Ripsaws?

Or Krawlers?

Depends on the Compound....but then even if both were R35 the Ripsaws perform better....but the Krawlers look better. :(

I'm picking up some Simple Green today and will try to soak the Krawlers. I've never softened any tires and this will be a first try solely based of the internetz.

Cut the tread blocks on the crawlers to loosen them up and give you more biting edges. Made a world of difference for me.

Don't know why I didn't think of that. I'll do that, too.

Even just this simple cut helped a lot.

It's a fun challenge that's for sure. I siped mine, vented and removed the foams. It's a tough carcass. Made improvements but still miles away from a good tire. I put them on when I want more of a challenge.

How did y'all go about this? Hot hobby knife and melt/burn it sounds to be the easiest, quickest, and possibly the cleanest. Not gonna be the best smelling job.

Skinny wheel on the dremel is what I used. Makes a helluva mess and you end up wearing a lot of rubber but the results are worth it.

Also do it where you don't want burnt rubber smell for the next few hours. I've found that a hotknife doesn't seem to work as well as a dremel, the dremel also gives you spacing which helps more than the slices IMO.

More messy than I would like but I've got a dremel and the cutoff wheels. I think I have one that looks like a skil saw blade somewhere.

I looked for almost an hour for the cutoff tool I have that looks like a circular saw and couldn't find it.

So I used 3 thin cutoff wheels as one to widen the cut and it works well. But for fooks sake...it smokes, stinks, and flings burnt rubber all over the place. I made two cuts and said F-it until I go buy another one of those none porous cutoff tools. I'm hoping it will cut and not burn the rubber. If not I'll be using those Rips instead.

WB8 driveshafts came in today. Got the tranny a few days ago and got a chance to mock them up after lunch. I wanted to run a Traxxas 550 12t but knew I needed some short gearing. I found a RR 90tooth 48p (nylon/teflon/white material) spur and a 14tooth pinion. I can't get any lower from my gear stash even with 32p. Put it all together on some 100mm Wraith shocks and it sits ridiculously tall. The 550 and the gearing seem to be a good combo with low speed and some medium speed on 2s.

The wood blade won't make clean cuts either. The metal blade will burn part of the rubber but also cut it cleaner with much less kick back due to it not catching like the toothed blade does.

Aim the shrapnel and prepare to clean up the mess. I used to do this work inside.

I don't have the patience to make 26+ cuts per tire.

No patience is fine, I never had it either until I couldn't make obstacles due to my lack of will to do work meant I couldn't climb something a friend could. Shame is a helluva motivator.
