| Wraith trans tight or something binding up
I picked up a used wraith I've gone through both axles tried to spin the rear by hand but it won't move I think something is tight or binding up what could it be the rear drive shaft is the only drive shaft currently hooked up to the axle

All stock - original components ? Possibly the PO used low quality parts as replacements or assembled it wrong from the start !? I suggest following the original instructions... break the axle down and rebuild it. Checking that axle's free rotation as it's reassembled. There's too many possibilities of fault that can be listed here. But you should be able to turn the output pinion and axle shafts by hand. http://docs.axialracing.com/instruct...wraith-kit.pdf Your shared pictures might offer us more clues. Pictures are worth 1000 words. |

I'd definitely recommend digging out the instructions (or downloading if you didn't get them) you'll need them soon rather than later to overhaul the truck anyway. Personally if I were to guess a fault mine would be a lock out screw too long, if the original screw was lost & replaced with one too long it will lock onto the axle shaft. I recommend using the longest screw you can, stock is 6mm long, 8mm is ok, from memory I can't exactly recall if it's 10mm or 12mm that then fouls the axle Below is instruction extract showing the screws I mean. depending on which Wraith you've got it may be a coarse thread (original & PS Wraith) or fine thread (Spawn) screw |

Mine has the coarse threads but the screw doesn't appear to be anything over 8mm the axle spins freely if I disconnect the drive shaft which leads me to believe it's a transmission problem

Ah ok, I mis read that you had the driveshafts off (don't ask me how, seems quite clear looking again now lol) If rear axle is fine with drive shaft off, then yes starting to look like could be the trans/motor. Next step I'd take is get the spur cover off & release the grub screw on the motor pinion & try turning the trans output, if it's still locked its trans, possibly a busted & jammed plastic gear. If the trans turns then it could be the motor birds nested a winding/sucked in a rock/just generally seized up. |
