Default Newbie question on tire sizes

Ok, here I am ready to buy stuff and find out I do not have permission to buy things from the For Sale section here. Hopefully that comes to am end soon.

So I bought a used Wraith then decided I am building one from scratch so new parts are ordered and it begins. Then I seen soon wheels and tires for sale today and realize I have no freaking clue what size I have on mine and what the different sizes even mean.

Currently I have Super Swamper TSL SX 2.05X5.4-2.2PL

So does this mean I have 2.2 tires? What is the 1.9 and so forth? I am sure there is thread on here somewhere and I did search but got a lot of hits and have read a lot without finding what I was looking for. I would think this would be a sticky but I did not see things there either. I see a lot of things for sale, a lot of build threads where I am reading and I am frustrated when I do not understand exactly what is being sold or being built. I need to understand this since I am trying to build one. It will get expensive if I buy the wrong parts because I am ignorant to what I am buying.

Any help with links to other threads explaining this would be great! I was looking for a big tire and not sure what kind. Once I understand the sizes then I am going to try and figure out the best tire for crawling.

Thanks in advance and sorry to those selling, I would have bought somethings today but I do not have access yet even though I am a paid member.

Default Newbie question on tire sizes

1.9 and 2.2 are rim sizes.
Most scalers run 1.9, my wraith runs 2.2 . I don't do scale, just rip rap

Read through some of the threads in the wraith section, be advised that many pictures are now missing thanks to Photobucket .
I run tall and big suspension and like tall tires.

I'm running the 5.80 Swampers on the Yeti, my wraith runs JConcepts ruptures, almost the same height with foams.

I just went to change the foams in my existing tires and the PO has weights inside all around the wheel. Using the crawler innovations foams I could not see how to change the foam. The old foam was apparently stock because it did not look like anything special. He had weight on all 4 wheels. I read here there should be no w Igbo added to spinning mass so I removed them. What a chore getting all the stickie crap off. I have one side done and not sure this was done right. I will find out today when I finish the other side and run it. I apparently should get weights for the front hubs, not sure what the weight in the rears accomplished.

Apparently there was a time when wheel weights were all the rage but nowadays it's about axle weights (incl. tubes, knuckle weights and so on). Healthier for the driveline and electronics.

The wraith is a 2.2 vehicle - you could put 1.9 wheels on it but without narrower axles it doesn't make sense.

Good move, they are hidden, that is the only good thing about them.
Even metal wheels add weight, the usually work well, but those internal weights help snap all sorts of things.

HD axial gears, Eddies sells a bearing set. Look at the incision locker, great value, low price

I second the incision locker. Just remember to remove the gasket on your old gears and use blue loctite on anything being threaded into metal.

No old gears here, this one is a fresh build... by someone who knows nothing about it.

So I was reading the disclaimers they have for these tires stating that a lot of bead locker wheels do not lock the head very well with these tires. Do you have any problem with that? I have the previous version of these swampers on my Wraith that I purchased and do notice I have to squeeze the circumference of the tire as I tighten the hardware and most of the time it does not work on the first try but seems to be fine when I am done.

I actually have to buy new wheels any way since these are going on my new build but I really like those wheels

no issues here, I used TSS robby gordon beadlocks, but they will fit on many others... some are harder to put on than others to get them seated but I have never had any I couldnt get them on..
