Re: DIG unit on a wraith Does a Wraith dig put the rear "brakes" on when in use? If so, it would be awesome. With the rear wheels free spinning, it would still work; but not as well. I'm interested in this topic for that reason. Edit: It does have brakes or free rear wheel during dig. Interested to learn whether it's worth all the extra parts. |
Re: DIG unit on a wraith It provides fully what the split ratio OD/UD only provides partially, which is why we use OD/UD where DIG is not allowed in some comp classes. It helps on tight turns, climbs with high rear grip or under cut that tries to tip the rig backwards & on descents. It isn't fool proof, the servo epa needs to be spot on or you'll burn servos much like a badly adjusted 2 speed. Personally I definitely think it's worth more than a 2 speed & is quite easy to fit in the stock Wraith case. |

Re: DIG unit on a wraith I have the Axial Dig module in my wraith trans. It is 3 postion 4wd, rear axle free, rear axle locked. If you only want two position it is 4wd and rear locked. 2 speed fits a much wider audience and is far more useful in various types of driving. A dig units audience is well...pretty small. That said, if your wraith is currently setup for rock crawling performance and frequently run super technical lines, yeah It might be worth looking into getting one. It takes some time to learn to use it effectively but after that you will really realize the benefits. Dig and over/under would be a killer setup. I saw VP testing a new and possibly redesigned Hurtz dig unit so I'd assume there was more interest in it as of late. |

Re: DIG unit on a wraith So I have my dig unit. I also have a hitec 645mg servo I was going to use until I realized the voltage. What servo do you recommend for a directly powered 2s solution. I may run it off of the 8.0v BEC on my mamba x as well. Undecided there as well. I am running a pro modeler 470 for steering and need the higher voltage. Re: DIG unit on a wraith What I did was to wire the bec from my esc direct to the dig servo because the one I use is not high voltage. Then I just use an external bec plugged directly into my receiver and set at 8.0 to run my steering servo. I did it this way because I like to use the bec in the esc as little as possible to keep it cool. "thumbsup" |
Re: DIG unit on a wraith I use a HV & external BEC with HH rx bypass for the steering but yeah, only use a 6v servo (I thing it's a 645MG same from memory) for the DIG on mine straight out of the rx. DIG servo isn't loaded like a steer servo & is only moving through 3 set points anyway, doesn't need to be huge power servo |

Nothing hanging off the rx (not even dig servo or a bunch of lights) is going to draw enough amps to bother that BEC, its the amp draw of the steer servo that browns out/kills them.
