| Newbie Working on a New Build - LOTS of questions
Well I bought a used one and was looking at things to do to it and thought I am changing most of it so why not build one. My wife is already hating me... I have a DMG Stiffy ordered, talked a little about the motor and ESC and figured I should first get the chassis and axles together then get the electronics in place. The next big purchase will be axles and I am torn because I see there are a lot of you out there with the offset axles and a lot with the centered axles. I am looking at the Currie RockJock 70 axles and wanted to hear real life experience opinions on centered vs offset axles. In my full size 4X4 I prefer a more inline geometry for strength but then again I have a 6,000 lb Landcruiser with 37's spinning. Let's hear from your experiences on the experts in this hobbie, centered or offset? Pros and Cons please |

Centered out back. Look into the SSD diamonds..... great value and performance. With my motor and gearing this truck can be a monster, full throttle will pull a full even wheelie, when full traction is there. The centered rear eliminated most of my torque twist. This in NOT a wheelie truck, normally slow in the rocks, but I can jump it out of a deep spot if needed. I run rip rap primarily so this helps me. Stock gearing (HD upgrade) incision locker . I always add the SSD delrin pinion protector I went this way as it was the cheapest accessory wise. Comes with the HD axles now, no lockouts needed. All shock mounts are the same so what you have will work. Hang up and Drive Last edited by mikemcE; 08-02-2017 at 09:58 AM. |

Are these He ones to have to flip the gears because hey are opposite? How do they hold up as far as bending? I do not see much as far as support at the center pumpkin

Hold stock axial gears , I put them in the way the old came out. These are solid metal, they are shiny on the bottom of both currently. As I crawl I don't run a U4 truss setup, I've yet to bend an axle or even flatten a bearing . I run 3 of these, 2 in the Wraith and a wide on my Yeti . Bulletproof , 3s and Holmes or Tekin power , I don't baby anything Hang up and Drive | |

Good answer! I was looking at the VP knuckles and they have a high steer type of approach and I did not see that on the SSD, can the knuckles from VP mount on the SSD's?

Nice! Now I will work on the gearing so I can order everything at once. Anyone know of any of the shops have sales or will have a sale relatively soon? I need to order my TA's too

I like those knuckle weights on the steering. Kinda wish they worked with the scale vanquish knuckles I have.

I saw they had those. The scale knuckles don't have the adjustable ackerman plates so I'm S.O.L. I might be able to fab a mount that might work but it would ruin the scale look and I'm not sure how strong it would be. I really like the idea of adding weight without adding rotating mass. Having wheel weights on my front rims is probably adding to my issues with the pinion contacting the inside of the axle. Those hexes are quite nice as well.

Are there axles (internal axle shafts) that are different lengths for whatever reason? I am trying to get a parts list together with numbers so I can try and find a place to buy everything from in hopes of saving some coin. This is going to be an expensive build

Yes , with normal pumpkin off to one side one axle is short, one long. Centered pumpkin means axles are same length Hang up and Drive |

"Lockouts are on the outside ends on stock AR60 axles, they hold the end bearings, not needed with SSD Axles I know they are listed separately , but I have 3 SSD diamonds. 1 front, not applicable. I have a wide on my Yeti, when I ordered it I had a set of HDs on hand, I still have them as a spare. The way to see is if the axles come with the slotted hexes, mine did . You can see them in the first picture, small bag up front. The only complaint I had read was the stock axles bending, and the upgrade solved it. I talked with Chris at SSD and he said the only one that comes with the HD is the Yeti wide axle housing

So is incision the best or cheapest? Just asking because at https://www.amainhobbies.com/incisio...c00001/p487847 they have bad reviews about sloppy fit
