Default Titan 21t gearing?

Currently building my wraith and need some help with gearing on 2s or 3s, looking for a good mix of wheel speed and crawling (if possible) as well as the stock spur i have

Axial Spurs 48P Gear 87T For SCX10 Wraith AX10 #AX30672

And these pinions
17T
19T
15T
21T

What would be a good combo to start with?

I’m running the steel Yeti spur on mine. 64 tooth, IIRC. Titan 12t on 2s and, for me, it’s a good mix of both slow crawl and speed. I don’t remember my pinion but I tried several before settling on one.

Wraith is better on 3s, I would suggest you to get 32p for better gear mesh. My Wraith was in SuperShafty trans 56t spur with 14t pinion. Decent in speed and yet still capable to crawl very well at low speed.

Please take note if you are using brushed motor please lower your gear ratio to prevent overheating your motor. Good gear ratio start from 56T Spur with 11t pinion.

Thanks for the info, what gearing would you recommend for 3s then? and what 32p spur would fit?

I have the Wraith Spawn Kit..... The Spawn comes with 32p Gears. Why the others DON'T, I can't figure out! Mine came with a 56 Tooth Spur Gear and a 12 Tooth Pinion.
IME - that HIGH of Gearing will most likely COOK my 25 turn Motor, and probably the next 5 Motors after that!!!

I'm TRYING to find someone willing to give me a 32p, 64 Tooth Spur Gear from a Yeti.... 12t is the Smallest Pinion I would ever run with 32 pitch gears. Also in my experience (24 years!), too small of a Pinion gear puts the Teeth at a MUCH sharper Mesh Angle, and causes accelerated wear to both the Spur and Pinion!

12/56 32 pitch is perfect imo, ran that for years with Duratrax plastic spur gear on 2s and 3s, pretty quiet and never stripped a spur even with slipper locked down!

I'm running the stock 56 spur gear with a 14 pinion in my spawn kit. 21T titan motor on 3S. No issues at all. Perfect for trailing I think. If I were just crawling I'd go down to a 12 pinion.

I have been running an 11t pinion on 3s for a long long time now, over 2 years, with no noticable wear to either the spur or pinion. This has been with various motors from a 13t to a HH puller pro 3500kv

Ran a 9t pinion for a while, haven't noticed any extra wear... willing to risk the 5$ for a new 56t plastic spur either way.

Right now: 35t cheapo rebuildable on 3s, 12/56t with UD on the rear, decent mix of speed and torque. Could use more of both but that means going brushless.

Planning on switching to a 550 can, cheap 540s tend to overheat when going all out in mud/snow.

Well..... I JUST got a Holmes Hobbies 30 Turn TorqueMaster Pro Motor and HH ESC!!!!!! (THANKS Mike!!)
This kind of changes my plans. I've also picked up some Excellent tips from friends and experts on here, including John Holmes himself!! Nice guy BTW. A good example of how to run a Company!

Anyway, in my case..... With that setup, the stock 56/12 will be fine for Trailing and other forms of "play"!
I'm hopefully getting a 10 Tooth Pinion, and that will work well for Comps and Technical Runs.
I've learned that no matter where you are, in the way of experience..... Don't be shy in asking for help! Especially here!! I'm GOOD at Dialing In 1/8 Nitro Buggies - but STILL learning about Scaler/Crawlers!
So, another big THANK YOU!!!

Also..... for anyone else's benefit - you CAN'T get a 64 Tooth Spur Gear in a Wraith, without ditching the Gear Cover, AND having to MODIFY the forward Driveshaft!!!
60 Tooth is as high as you can go, 58 with the Cover on.

Negative, Ghost Rider. Just a little trimming is all. This is the steel Yeti/Bomber 64tooth spur.
