Default Xtra speed housing

Anyone try the xtra speed ar60 steel housings? I was thinking they would be a cheap/great way to get low un sprung weight. I’ve read they are pretty heavy. Plus, they are strong aftermarket housings. Two birds one stone.

Awesome, sounds good. Also, it may be negligible, but I work in a metal shop and steel always slides better than aluminum. No matter the surface. So they should slide better than the aluminum ones.

The xtra speeds are cast pot metal alloy. They are strong and well liked. I have seen a few crack in extreme cold conditions.they are worth the buy.

Xtra speed had very good reports from my local comp guys. Great value and still good in quality.

Definitely ordering them then. Makes sense with the cold but I don’t think it will be an issue for me. Not too fond of it.

I used some of their alloy AR60 housings on an AX10 build. Great quality and finish for the $. I had zero issues with them running them hard.

Ordered. Can’t wait to install. I almost like wrenching on it more than driving it. (Almost)

I too am running these axles both the scx10 and th3 ar60 versions i have had only one.issue on one the bearing pocket wasent quite.to specs and i couldent run a thrust bearing so i went with the big bearing mod and they have been great just remeber more wait = more broken parts the pinnion bearings give out in short amount of time so i run thrust washers except the one i had to mod for a bigger bearing
You will have to watch axle shafts in a fall my wheels have a bad habit of snaping clean off as there is no give and there realy heavy also more strain on your motor and gear train but in contrast to everything when i bump my rig and it plants itself on the rock face at a 45°angle and its like its on a flat serface is just priceless you get so much more stick its sick

Another added bonus they dont flex at all so the gears dont strip from to much power that was the whole reson i went with metal axles in the first place

Good to know about the bearing pocket. Also, considering what you said about drive train in general with added weight, my plan is to address things as they come. I don’t mind when things break. I get to fix it. This is an easier way for me instead of just hopping up everything at once.

Jist make sure its a 1 piece housing. Not like the ones i bought. These things r a nightmare to keep together. The screws that hold the shafts into the pumpkin r horrible so much play and ur constantly retightening no matter how much loctite u use or the screw for the matter

Here’s the link. Also, I’m installing now. Everything worked great, but the lockout screws and diff retainer screws are m3x.5 for the xtraspeed housings. Which is great, but the stock corresponding screws are the course thread screws for the plastic. I’m not gonna force them in. I’ll go buy new m3 screws. Other than that, all good.
