3D printed is about the only other option. There are a few external skids that were available once upon a time. Maybe some around somewhere.

I’ve got a thread in here somewhere discussing the 3D tucked skid.

I've had my eye on this one: https://store.rcaddict.us/collection...clearance-skid but I'd like to fire off an email to see about incorporating multiple (taller) upper link mounts, and verifying fitment of a 550 brushed (56mm) motor. I believe that "flat" will net ~7mm under the belly.

High altitude performance on shapeways does a bunch of different skids. I've used this skid and the LCG version. They are compatible with bombers or wraiths. The whole setup for non lcg is $65 complete. Nice stuff!

how long does the skid last? since it is 3D printed i know that some of the item that are printed will not take a lot of stress.

Shapeways stuff is pretty durable, a lot stronger than I ever expected printed parts to be that's for sure. You can get it printed in harder material too.

The rig on the right has the standard version. The left has the lcg.

I just installed my low profile 3D printed skid from Shapeways. Loving it. That bit of extra clearance makes a big difference. Slides well too. I got the version uploaded by 3D-RC.

You are mistaken. Printed correctly some materials are very tough. I have been using skid plates, bumpers, shock mounts, leaf spring perches and lots of other goodies.

No failures yet.

I don't think he has a website yet so contact high altitude performance through bookface or through his shapeways store.

no am no mistaken i am a engineer by trade and it really depends on what materiel the part is made out, but from what i have seen for our proto-types we use there not very tough. i wasn't really sure what kind of material was used. granted we don't 3D print for strength just verification of a part. so this is what i have been going by. i will take your word for it since you are running the truck. thanks.

You can definitely print out crap that is weak. The stuff I print out using fast settings to check dimensions, fit, ect, while looking good aren't very strong at all. Print it out in a better quality and it is on par with the nylon and delrin injected parts.

I literally can not break the abs bumpers I made. But things have to be printed or designed or both to overcome the weakness of the layers.
