So I just picked up axial wraith spawn and I was just wanting to put a brushless motor and keep it original so can I run a axial ae-3 vanguard brushless waterproof esc & 3150kv 4 pole brushless and not have very many problems and what all should I do about gearing. I want to crawl and have a good wheel speed maybe sand dirt use it outside I have a 2017 wrangler I will be using indoor. I found the set up on eBay for 120 bucks |

Is it suitable if you are wanting to crawl? No It is an unsensored or sensorless combo made for the Yeti. So it will go fast enough but won't crawl very well. It will cog and wont give you the smooth low speed torque that you need for crawling. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

I still find it hard to not suggest one of these combos so long as you can live without waterproofing HobbyWing Xerun XR8 sensored esc https://www.amainhobbies.com/hobbywi...113301/p540793 HobbyWing SCT 3652 4 pole sensored motor https://www.amainhobbies.com/hobbywi...401056/p580784 Last edited by altd896; 01-29-2019 at 08:37 PM. |

That doesn’t seem too bad now about the waterproof it’s not really a great idea to be in water with electric parts my ideal not saying it’s not going to happen though. is this what you run in your crawler / rock racer There’s a video on YouTube where He strongly recommends the Roc 412 brushless motor Last edited by JK17WH; 01-29-2019 at 09:13 PM. |

Actually in my Wraith is a Castle MMP & Tekin redline 13.5t (~3500kv) running on 3s. Both older tech & motor only 2 pole rather than smoother torquier 4 pole HW. It all works fine & has done the last 5 years I've had it, but buying again now this is the combo I'd get. My Bomber has one similar to these (previous version SCT esc) only reason I don't recommend this for a Wraith is the 550 can motor doesn't fit straight it, you need to mod the skid at the link mount https://www.amainhobbies.com/castle-...145-00/p453455 The Castle Mamba X with it's 3rd ch aux control that can be used to switch drag brake on/off is real nice & WP but is $30 more https://www.amainhobbies.com/castle-...145-00/p453455 |

Well, the ROC 412 motor alone is going to pretty well shoot your budget of $200 right in the butt. https://www.amainhobbies.com/tekin-r...tt2622/p707225 As was previously covered, if you want any sort of low speed control for crawling, you will need to get a Sensored set up. If you can up your budget, my recommendation would be a MAMBA-X ESC and a Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro in the 3500KV range. This set up provides great crawling performance, and still allows for some awesome wheel speed. Gearing - you're sweet spot in a Wraith (with stock axle gearing) is in the 5.2:1 to 6.0:1 range. I.E., 32p 56T Spur and 32p 10T pinion = 5.6:1 I run the 5.6:1 ratio in my rig, but I also run underdrive out back. I'm running the 3500KV Puller Pro with the Holmes Hobbies BLE ESC. (you be great with the Mamba-X or the BLE. I'd lean towards the Mamba at this point though because of the new Drag Brake Ramping feature.) I think the specs above will get you right where you want to be in terms of crawling capability but also some speed for trailing and general silliness! It's admittedly a fair bit above your $200 budget. But, you can count on this system lasting you for years with a little care and maintenance. Plus, both Castle and Holmes Hobbies have excellent customer support an warranty programs. https://www.amainhobbies.com/castle-...155-00/p578314 https://www.amainhobbies.com/holmes-...3500wp/p540585 Last edited by mewalsh100; 01-30-2019 at 06:33 AM.
