| Ripsaw on 30mm rims
Does anyone have any experience or opinion on mounting the Wraith Spawn stock Ripsaw tyres on 30mm rims? The specs for the Ripsaws says 35-45mm. What are the implications of running them on 30mm rims? Thanks! |

I've run Ripsaws on 25, 30(?), 40(ish)mm, and 50mm wheels. If you want to crawl with them, the narrower wheels work better, more responsive steering, foams fill the tire better (assuming the same foam was used with the different widths), and they keep the tire as tall/narrow as possible which increases ground pressure and ground clearance. On the 40/50mm wheels, they have more give to them since the foam isn't as compressed and the sidewalls can puff out, which also makes the steering more vague (the wheel turns, but the tire takes a moment to catch up), but this works better on soft/loose terrain as it allows the contact patch of the tire to spread out more evenly and conform to the terrain better for lower ground pressure. In other words, wide or narrow both have their benefits. TLDR; 30mm wide wheels will work fine on 2.2 Ripsaws. |
