Default New member reviving my broken Wraith

So I purchased my Wraith somewhere around 2011 or 2012. It ran great stock for a few years. Then one day it decided it had enough. Testing somethings I found the ESC went bad. My family had just moved from AZ to MN and the Wraith was put away in a box. This was in 2014. I now want to get it running again. I have been to a few local rc shops and nobody can tell me a good ESC replacement, most people around here play with traxxas stadium style trucks, not so much the crawler realm. I am not currently running lipos and would like to get it going for a reasonable price, under $100 for now. I found an ESC that maybe is good?

or this one

Any suggestions to drop just an ESC in this thing? I do want to upgrade the motor down the road but for now I just want to knock the dust off it and get it running.

By the way I do plan to play in the snow with it in the winter.

Any Advice would be appreciated.

The HW 1080 is a perfect upgrade for getting your Wraith going again!

Unless you have a castle link, I wouldn't bother running a Sidewinder 3. The Hobbywing is a much better choice for brushed

Thanks for the info I will get it ordered. Is there anything I need to consider also? Any issues plugging anything in? do I need to buy any adapters or just cut and splice my plugs?

I second the HW 1080. Get the program card if it doesn't come with it. I don't remember, it's been too long. It makes programming the ESC much more simple.

1080 comes with the program card.

The 1080 also has an XT60 battery connector so if your battery doesnt have that, youll need an adapter. You'll also need to buy some 4mm motor bullets to put on the esc so itll plug into your motor in unless you want to directly wire it to the motor. Personally i think it'll be easiest to buy the 4mm bullets.

thanks for all the responses. I got the ESC ordered and it comes with the programmer. I also ordered some adapters and connectors. I also ordered a few new batteries since mine is quite old and doesn't appear to hold a charge. Hopefully it will be running again soon.

My parts should be here Monday. I am thrilled to get it going again and hopefully be able to play in the snow this year.

So the esc, batteries and plugs came in today. I hooked everything up and it all works again. Now the bad news. I took this thing apart quite a few years ago and apparently lost the bottom half of the reciever box and the portion of the chassis that goes under it. If anyone has those parts I would be interested in purchasing them. I am trying to post a picture but my phone won't let me.

They still sell those parts if no one has one kicking around for you. I actually have the reciever box but not the other part

I had been looking but couldn't find them for the 2.2 wraith. I will probably call horizon hobby Monday. Thanks for the info.

The receiver box and frame section are different in the wraith. For some reason I cant post any pictures. I have part numbers in the manual but cant find them doing a google search. I may just make a frame member and then buy an aftermarket receiver box.

http://www.competitionx.com/pdfs/veh...ith-manual.pdf

see page 11, the frame section and lower half the box are what I lost.

ohh... I was looking at the wraith spawn manual. Assumed it was the same cage.

doing some digging it says that the spawn one will work in the wraith 2.2. I found the original one but they are unavailable. I did find an aluminum frame section and receiver box from integy but it will be like $60 for everything.

The wraith Spawn is the "new" 2.2 Wraith. There are a few differences, but the cage is the same.
Might help when looking for parts

so I got the ESC and new batteries. i put them in and running the ESC as it came, without doing any programming the Wraith is alive again. I am now waiting for my new wheels to be delivered today since one of my previous wheels broke. I had 3d printed a design I did years ago and the FDM ABS plastic finally failed. Did them as a prototype and the look awesome but they need to be machined out of aluminum to last. Hopefully that will happen soon. I will try to get some pics up in the next week or so. thanks for the feed back on the ESC I was looking at.

That is awesome that you got it up and running!

I have a couple older rigs from the 90's that I want to get back up and running.
