Default Brandon's XR10 Build & Tech Thread

My turn

I have been looking forward to starting this thread for a loooooong time now. I will be updating this post as often as I can and posting additional information on Axial's Blog (so don't be shy and check it out).

My personal XR10 has gone through quite a bit already, the months of testing prototypes and fine tuning every part has been quite an exciting process. So I decided to start my build with my setup for the XR10's first official Comp. The 2010 Axial West Coast Championships.

Here is the list of specs/parts I ran at AWCC 2010

* Tekin FXR’s (2)
* Tekin 55T’s
* Axial Steel 14T pinion (Front) Part #: AX30569
* Axial Steel 13T Pinion (Rear) Part #: AX30571
* Maxamps 1550 3S LiPo
* Futaba 4PK
* Futaba S9157 Steering Servo
* Futaba Aluminum Servo Horn
* Castle Creations BEC
* Dace MFG servo clamps
* Axial 61-90mm Aluminum Shock Set
* Pro-Line Single Stage Powerstroke springs
* XR10 Stage 2 Carbon Fiber Upgrade Kit. (More info coming soon)
* Axial Machined Hi-Clearance Links
* Custom aluminum plate for battery mount
* Axial Hardline body

Check out more details and comments on my WCC setup, click HERE. This includes some high-res versions of the pictures below.

There are quite a few awesome detailed build threads currently by Axial Team drivers so I wont go into all the details of the build itself. However, feel free to ask questions about my setup and I will be sure to continue to update this thread with the changes I make.

The biggest thing I have already changed was the center clearance. My setup at AWCC was based off my past setups with the AX10 and my comfort level with super low COG (achieved with a low ride height). Now that I have been tweaking on my XR10 I have about 3.4" of GC with the stock chassis and loving the way it drives Those pics and details coming soon.

I can say enough how cool I think it is that not just you and the axial drivers but everyone who comps takes the time and gives all (maybe not all) the mods and items they use in the rigs they drive. Which really says alot about the sport of crawling. Yes I said sport not hobby. So thanks alot for being so classy.

Nice pics Brandon! Is that 3.4" of belly at full droop, or at ride height?

How's the 1550 packing working out? Any size or weight issues? How much run time do you get on it?

Thanks!

Sweet and clean. Why 55t as oppose to 45t?

Are those Alum Bent links? Are they the same as the AX10?

Thanks, the wiring took the longest. I have it mounted pretty low in the chassis too.

Thanks Ryan! Just wish I had Yoda's help.

Its 3.4" at full droop, but it rides at about 3.25". Not much droop with my current setup, but I like it. I dont like the way the partial droop feels, seemed to cause the rig to unload in some instances.

The 1550's are awesome. They are a tight squeeze and I spent some time getting it mounted as low as possible. Going to try the 1800 3S packs next, I will let you know how those fit. I get about 35 min of run time.

I ran 55's at WCC, I am running 45T's now. I really liked the low end control with the 55's. Having too much wheelspeed can be a bad thing

Yup those are the same as the AX10. The link is in my first post

Those carbon chassis components are super light too. Feels like a completely different rig.

Looks great Brandon! You guys did an incredible job on this thing. I like all the carbon fiber goodies.

Have you clocked your axles at all or with their smaller size and rasied gear box are you finding it's not that necessary? Is it as simple as adding longer upper links and adjusting the caster on the front? I'm sure you could just add spacers to the rear.

Thanks

Excuse my English writing. Could you kindly be referred to the setup of your Tekin FXR ESC?

For some reason I am having a mental block with the 2 Escs and how that works, anything you want to share on that and using it with the 4PK would be welcome. (clearly I need to do more searching in the electronics section as well).

You use a Y servo adapter to the two ESC's so one channel controls both ESC's. Then add a punk dig or similar.

No! Each esc plugs in to a separate channel and all the mixing/digs are controlled by the radio. No dig unit needed/used.
