Here you can see my flat and lightweight wiring job. I've buyed the ESC's with the soldering posts removed for lightening. I've made a supply bridge over the two ESC's and I attach the battery wires, unified capacitor and BEC directly to it. Flat desing for low C.O.G. No redundant wires and no posts for lightweight. I have been studying this solution time enough until I can't find anything better. I know the reciver is a little big but for now is that I have and it is a great equipement and no one fail ever with the antenna rolled.

how does the braided sheilding hold up? Does it fray and get fuzzy?

Your understanding of small wire being a bottleneck is absolutely correct. Wire that is too small will not allow you to pass the current needed, it will heat up, and eventually fail. But how small is too small? Before I made the switch to smaller wire and connectors I did a current study. After running a 5 minute course, I logged the amount of capacity that I used. It was really easy using my charger, as it has the info right on the screen. With 2 30T motors I use on average 120 mAh in 5 minutes. Let's say this is a really tough course and I used 200mAh in 5 minutes. Doing a little math.

200 mAh = .2 Ah = 12 Am (Amp minutes)

Divide that by how long you ran, in my case 5 minutes.

12 Am/5m= 2.4 Amps

2.4 Amps! That is the average current draw for my application

Now you tell me if you need wire that is rated for 100's of amps
The average amperage isn't what is important, it is the maximum. While you have a very low load the smaller wires are more than enough, but when you momentarily need 100% power the smaller wires will have a sometimes very significant voltage drop, limiting your power.

Voltage Drop Calculator

1 foot of 20 awg, 11.1v @ 30 amps gives a voltage drop of 5.5%
The same, but with 12 awg wire gives 0.86% voltage drop.

Up it to 60amps and the 20 awg has a voltage drop of 10.99%
12 awg has a drop of 1.71%

All of my electronics fit on a custom tray I made. After I unplug the motors and servo, it comes out in 1 piece.

Is an 11% loss of power going to keep anyone from finishing a course? How often does anyone run at WOT in a course? How bad of a bind does one have to get into to pull 60 amps? How long will the drivetrain survive the bind at this power level?

I'll take the weight savings and ease of use that comes with the smaller wires. I'm running 18 AWG on the motors, and 16 everywhere else.
