Default Del Monte's XR10 Build #1

Well, here we go again

I'm very excited to be building a XR after running a shafty for the last 2.5 years. I've got a lot to learn with this truck, and I can't wait to get it on the rocks.

Here's a quick rundown of what I will be using:

Futaba 4pk
45t motors (until I can get my hands on some HH motors)
3S 430mah and 3S 860mah batteries
Dual Sidewinder Micros
Futaba BLS157HV servo
Axial Carbon Fiber chassis plates AX30750
Axial Stage 1 Aluminum upgrade kit AX30343
Axial Machined Gears

[/URL]

I will be building this truck using Axial's kit and aftermarket parts to see how far I can take a "Factory" truck. From what I've seen so far, the stock stuff can be make to work very well. Build #2 will see some outside-the-box stuff

The first thing I did with the shocks on this build is remove the internal bladders and wrap teflon tape around the threads for the upper shock cap.

I'm not used to tuning a bladder shock, and I want to eliminate as many variables as possible. I've already got enough to learn on this truck, I don't need to be any more confused Also note my new VP shock stand...

After tightening down the upper shock cap, I just built the shocks like a standard cartridge shock.

On the front shocks I used a bent rod end from the AXI80005 parts tree to push the shock away from the steering servo. I'm not sure where on this forum on saw this mod, but I'm definitely not the first to try this.

Here's my current shock setup. I'm sure this will change once I get more time on the truck, so consider this a starting point. Once I have this truck dialed in, I will post a complete setup sheet.

Front shocks
15wt oil
3mm external limiter
1.4lb Spring
4mm preload

Rear Shocks
25wt oil
8mm external limiter
1.0lb spring
2mm preload

With the slightly stiffer front springs, the truck seems to cycle very evenly. I generally try to have the front and rear shocks bottom out about the same time when flexing, and this setup is pretty close.

Finally you started. Are you going for the 5-pole motors?
I just clearcoated the micros without the shrink-tubing for better heat dissipation.
Subscribed big time!

The switch from a shafty to an MOA is like night and day. My XR can do things my shafty couldn't even dream of.
Great start.

Looking forward to seeing what comes from build #2...sounds like it'll be REALLY interesting! This build looks sweet with all of the Axial brand hop ups though. Are they gonna let you have one of the lighter weight bodies?

Welcome to the darkside Jake. We DEFINITELY missed you & Jess...or is it Jessie now ...at SOCAL Comp #4. Looking forward to the finals & seeing what you can make that Axial do. Better figure that Futaba out tho...points are getting interesting.

I'm definitely going to try some HH 5-pole motors. They look pretty impressive so far.
