| Getting into comping. New XR10
Hello. After the past couple weeks of dealing with the passing of my sister, I am now ready to get back on track with many things. I am starting production of my tire covers again, getting back to my classes, back to work, and now starting my first real comp rig. I started out with a AX-10 way back and just moved from that into scalers. Well I have been getting the itch to get into a scale comp rig. With the price drop on the XR kit I couldn't say no. I ordered a kit and I am piecing together what other parts I am looking at. Here is what I think I am going to use XR10 kit Vanquish Hubs and knuckles Vanquish rear lockouts Rowdy Racing battery mount Vanquish SLW wheels (unsure what hubs or width) Vanquish bearing set 4PL radio 13T CrawlMasters Holmes ESCs 4S Batt White dot rovers Losi gold springs Vanquish knuckle weights Thats it for now. I am looking for some advice on what width wheels to run, I am thinking .700 and what hex hubs to get. Any ideas? |

Well everyone seems to have their own opinions obviously but a 1" slw wheel has seem to work well for me overall. Far as hubs go I have just about every offest VP makes and I switch them out per course or comp. I usually run 350's up front and 475 out back as a starting point.

Pretty new at this myself, but with 4s lipo, you might want to think of rc4wd gears. Sent from my uber smart, smart phone.... |

X2.......I wouldn't even run an XR with out RC4WD gears, but it can be done.....for a little while. Don't waste your money on the rear lockouts, use the stock ones and spend the money on a servo guard. Last edited by BLKXJ 96; 11-06-2011 at 09:45 PM. | |

I run fully weighted dh procomp wheels with 585 offset up front and slw .700 with 725 offset and it works great for me |

make sure you don't remove that servo plate on the rear axle, especially without upgraded gears. you should at least look into doing the bearing mod for the motor plate and the vanquish bushings, or the vanquish plates and cases if you want to have any hope of the stock gears lasting!

If you going to run rovers. I would go with 1'' wide wheel.

Looks like a great start Couple of things that stand out on that list to me. 1/ Rear lockouts I have these and they do tighten up the rear axle slop, BUT you can do this with some spacers and the stock lock outs. 2/ 13T on 4S Bloody hell that's going to make your XR10 faster than my ERevo In all seriousness i don't know that specific motor, but in my experience driving style and driving surfaces we have here, you really don't want anything faster than a 35T. Because the gears are a fundamentally bad design i would advise to go for something like a 35T and run it on 2S or 3S. 4S turned my gearbox into dust after only 5 mins or very very mild crawling this AFTER i'd done the 9mm motor plate and bushing mods. 3/ On my investigation your going to struggle to get enough weight with only the knuckle weights, unless you go for high offset wheels. I believe in some comps you guys have a width limit? If so you might not be able to get wide enough to run knuckle weights alone, so have it in mind that you may well need to find a solution to add even more weight somewhere. Another thing is, even if you do not have any width restrictions, now that VP have stopped producing 1/4" add on weights it starts to get MEGA expensive. To give you a rough idea, i'm currently running stock wheels with 6 VP bullet weights each side. 6 x 28.9g = 173.4g per side The knuckle weights are 92g 173.4g - 92g = 81.4g extra weight needed each side The 1/8" add on rings are 19.5g each and you get 2 in a pack = 39g total So to get the same weight i'm running i'd need 1 x knuckle weight set at $80. 2 x add on weight sets each side 4 x $16 = $64 $64 + $80 = $144 So even IF you can run the width to get enough knuckle weight your still going to need around $144 in VP brass alone, plus the knuckles at $50 a set Sure the truck runs very slightly better with the weight removed from rotational mass, but by the time you've done your talking $200 all in to get enough knuckle weight. Personally i think it's disgusting that VP have stopped selling the 1/4" weights as if they still sold them you'd only need 1 x 1/4" weights either side = $21 x 2 = $42 So simply by dropping the 1/4" weights VP are robbing us of $22 Cheers Mark |

Thank you all. Yes I forgot to add the rc4wd gears to my list. I had already planned them. As for my reason for the 13t motors is for the 5 slot armature. 4s in the even I really need wheel speed. I am going to go with slw wheels, 1.00 front and .700 rear.

Just ordered RC4WD gears, vanquish motor plates, and vanquish brass inserts.
