Default Y-Town BJ4 Link and Shock Spacers and Setup

How is everyone attaching their links and shocks to the chassis? I haven't seen this info in any of the builds. Looks like maybe some Traxxas short and/or tall hollow balls on some of the builds, maybe just DIY spacers on others. Hard to tell from pics. Need some part numbers, lengths, pics. I have chaotic ti links with Traxxas ends.

Also, I'll take some advice on which holes to use to get started.

Thanks

Well the holes all depend on what shocks and how much ground clearence u are going for. As far as spacers for your shocks 5mm spacers work well which come in most axial kits.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the shocks. Just sticking with stock shocks for now. As far as ground clearance goes, I guess middle of the road. I'm guessing getting max clearance makes it more unstable on side-hilling?

Use the 5 mm spacers for front and rear links and shocks? Also, I see little rubber grommets on some of them. What's that all about?

Yes the higher the rig, the more sidehilling will suffer, but it offers more ground clearance.

I use little pieces of Rc full line and I put it on the upper links were they mount to the axles cause it gets rid of the slop and still has some give in it

This must be what you're talking about:
Quote:
chassis mount locations:

front uppers mounted in inner most hole on chassis top hole

rear uppers mounted on the inner most hole on the chassis second hole up from the bottom

rear lowers at the axle moved up and to the outside of the shock mounting location (with the lower mounts removed)

front shocks:

mounted in 4th hole from the front

limited 1/8" internally and 3/8" externally

rear shocks:

mounted first hole from the back

limited externally 1/2"
I now remember seeing that; I had forgotten it was there. Thanks

Still can't figure out how the shocks and links are mounted to the chassis, though. This setup looks pretty slick, but I have no idea what's going on here. Looks like some elongated balls () on the links and maybe some kind of rubber bushing on either side of the shock.

I think these bushings were in Krawlfreak's build too?

Am I over-thinking this?

Update:

I just updated my other thread, so I figured I’d do the same here. I ended up taking out the spacers between the links and the chassis. I saw that everyone else had done it, so I assumed you had to, but it seems like the way Chaotic Crawlers bends their links allows them to come off the chassis pretty straight. I twisted and torqued my rig every way I could, and never got the links or the ends to touch the chassis. I didn’t like them hanging out so far, so unless you guys have a reason for me to space them out a bit, I think I’ll go with this. For the record, I did put a plastic washer from one of the shock trees under the rear balls. It bumps the link out about 1 mm.

I Space out the uppers on my BJ4.2 Pro about 2-3mm each side, feels more stable
