| Fix your rear axle slop on the super cheap!
I see lots of people complain about the side to side slop in their rear axles with the stock lockouts. I've seen solutions recommended with shimming etc, but never seen any pictures. I was swapping in my rc4wd gears in the rear axle and figured i'd fix the slop while I was in there, so I thought I should put some pictures up so you can see. Super cheap, I just put some small o-rings over the axles that rest up against the shoulder. Slop is completely gone. |

i bet if the orings are tight on there they won't come off, but i would worry about it pushing in and the o ring coming around the lip. smart idea. i hope this works well, because i may do something similar.

The key is having an o-ring that fits tight enough that it has to stretch a bit over the axle. Last edited by mdchris; 03-03-2012 at 06:07 AM. | |

just put those o-rings inside the spool, it pushes on the axles so they "could" still compress, but it takes some trying.

What a great idea! I have a couple of different o-ring kits with a BUNCH of different sizes, so I am doing this mod today for sure. |

The post about the O ring possible spreading and popping over the lip seems dry realistic. Best solutioN IMO is the Teflon shim traxxas makes. I think it's like $2 and you an use them all over the place. I use them to take out the side to side slip on the rear shafts, the universals on the front axle (on both the XR & AX/SCX) and a great thing they can be used for is to take the slop out of the AX/SCX top shaft. Out one steepen the shaft space Nd the slipper pin and when assembled, that notorious slop is reduced significantly. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXJJ88&P=ML Last edited by TSK; 03-03-2012 at 11:04 AM. |

Yup all the other methods listed above I have seen before, and I think they would all also work just fine, but nobody has ever put up pictures of it before that I have seen so that's all I was aiming to do. Sometimes it's easier for people to see what you mean with a picture. I'm tellin you guys I tried to get the o-ring to pop over the shoulder, it's not gonna happen. You'll bend the axle first. The shoulder is taller than the o-ring on the flat sides that slip in to the spool. Whichever method anybody chooses to use they'll be happy with the results i'm sure, i'm glad to have helped some people out! Last edited by mdchris; 03-03-2012 at 11:47 AM. |
