Crawlingmans XR10 "on the cheap"
 

i call this build.... WaTeRwOrKs v1.0 type pvc

chassis- pvc tube cut at 3 inches in length and split 2$
links- stock angled plastic on bottom
axles- stock
tires- 2.2 badlands 30$
rims- 30mm width buggy rims 5$
shocks- stock
torsion plates- flexable cutting board -from the kitchen


electronics-
integy dual 55t speed control 45$
fireball 60t motors 19$ each

needed....
servo, battery, charger



thats the basic rundown. i wanted this to just be a "sportsman style" rig just for backyard use.

and... a fun build.

152$ even for the kit.

total cost- so far. 272$ thats pretty cheap. i have a radio so :P

Way to put together a capable rig on a budget! It's good to see someone go that route vs. dumping $1500

You could literally get a short length of upvc guttering drop pipe which is superlight and only about 1mm thick and link that to the axles, as long as it was still round it would be strong too - but slightly brittle in winter. I have plenty being a Plumber, I also have a few metres of Ø3" P.E. tube but that has a 5mm wall

i promise better detailed pics of this whole thing later today in a few hours. i will also show you guys low budget mods ive came up with.
i made more caster, limited the shocks inside on both sides with tcs medium internal springs. i cut the springs like this like a 70/30 ratio, i didnt measure them before i put them in :/ just marked them.
im also going to use the old battery mount cut a bit and shaved for a front axle battery mount :) i still need to make my rims. though im going to have to use the vanquish slw hubs. idk what width yet though.
im going to keep the badlands but shave, not cut some of the lugs down to half their size. with these tires being knobby and kinda spaced out i cant just cut them off cause then all traction will be lost on the rough stuff in michigan.

oh, this build for me may be fun, but it is my last for three years as i wont have much time with it in the army. i leave may 21'st this year. thats why i started with this idea :) short build. easy stuff. ill even take some pics on another frame ill make later.

i used the single esc mount and put it on its side to mount it to the shaved cutting board peice. giving the esc a flat spot to mount on.

all ze pics. ill get more once i drive 6 hours back to michigan. thats where all the rest of my hardware is. i did this on the fly, but i too my measurements before cutting :)

That's pretty cool. very innovative and I certianly like how you used the torsion rods to locate the axle via the upper link mount.

thanks king. although i need a front axle for the rear and some tweaking on the steering. or imma look and see if that screw area is any way at all shaveable. prolly not. i just wish i was close to all my extra stuff....

hey all, ive been busy looking for a formula first so no rock time till middle of next week! also have a suprize. it went bodiless... on accident maybe.

i can tell you its super light and im using a maxxamps life battery "thumbsup"

sorry to dig my own post back up... but I think its time to revisit this build and finish it. only problem is... my axles. I cannot find them. I tore it all apart and made a stick chassis and a video on youtube of it. is was great for what it was at the time but tires were way short.

time to revamp this pvc idea.

couldn't find my axles still, so I scored a set from the classifieds. they should be here soon. I did find my pvc pipe with the drawing on it though. but I think im going to revise it and put it on paper then transfer it with paper. this build wont be cheap any longer lol. ill get pics during the chassis design throughout the week.

its in the process. I have a bad feeling I wont drive it though. id just put it on a shelf to admire it.

I have a set of axles.

still going through all of my household goods I never opened coming out of the army. so now to find that old pvc tube. or is it just time to get a lathe and some delrin???????????

Oh man I know the feeling I am about to have the Army pack all my stuff and move it from Tx to GA and I am sure there will be plenty of stuff that will sit in boxes forever..

small update with no pictures...

seeing that there is no 2.2 comp in my area anymore, I feel no use putting time into this build once again.

but wait.. something is biting me hard.. but its gonna still happen. maybe not with a pvc tube.

im going to build a real 2.2 pro rig. and im gonna crawl the hell out of it till I need new cases. so, let this thread die. ill be starting a new thread soon. "thumbsup"
