Default XR10 Bushing mod?

Just finished drilling out my motor plates for 9mm flanged bearings from AVID and installing the Traxxas bushings, but now when I screw the gearbox together the shafts bind. I think the Traxxas bushings are a little thicker than the stock bearings and it's causing the binding.. Anyone else have this problem and how did you solve it?

If it 's assembled properly, and still binding, i would just try putting another bushing in.

I also advise to soak the bsuhings in some light oil overnihgt to help them soak them up as the oilite bushings tend to be a little porous. If it still seems tight, just run it as it will break in and should be pretty smooth after a pack or two.

mine were not tight and I had no binding at all with stock motor plates or VP motor plates, stock cases or HR machined cases.

I still run traxxas bushings in mine. (they do show some wear on the outer edges so tolerances could be tight, if you are assembled correctly and 100% sure you are, like TheScorpionKing said just run it, it wont take long for it to free itself up)

Forgot to ask. Did you drill the motor plate by hand or with a drill press?

cause yeah, my bushings never seemed tight, and i suspect your bearings are not sitting true in the plate.

Norco kid,
I agree with what others have already said but I'd advise you to look carefully : in the traxxas bushing bag, I've noticed that some bushings are slightly beefier than others but nothing I think that could cause what you're describing... Just keep in those that fit good :p

Yup, you were right.. One of the bushings I had used was quite a bit fatter than the rest so I just picked a new one and it seems good.. Thanks!

It's a Traxxas bushing that can be used on the top shaft and in the stock gear cases. Part number is TRX3775.

It gets rid of this pesky little 5x8mm bearings that are prone to failure.

Tamiya has them also, so if you ever built a beginner level Tamiya you have those bushing.

Yeah sure check it out! Nothing too crazy just a stock XR10 lol.. I did do the 9mm bearing/bushing mod as mentioned and put on an aluminum servo horn. Haven't gotten around to the body yet. The servo is a Power HD 1501MG.

Lol nice! I'm just about done with mine.. I got it several years ago but now with the brushless/lipo stuff nitro is not worth the hassle for me. Plus it's hard to find a place to drive it without bothering people.
