| Best XR10 shock setup?
I think I've finally had it with my stock XR10 shocks. The bladders keep leaking because you can't tighten the shock caps too tight but if you tighten the shock caps tight enough so they don't leak, the bladders can tear and they leak anyways. I'm considering switching to something else at this point. Let me know of the best shock setups you have for the XR10. |

use o-rings insteade of the bladders but if you must buy new shocks i would use 4" big bores or losi |

grease the bladder first. and put a breather in the cap. And don;t overfill them. But I'd go with 3.5" big bores (you can cap mod them if you need them to be 4" long) or SCX shocks which leak like no other shock out there, 3.5" shocks seem to be the more comp standard lenth nowadays |

im running scx shocks on my xr nice and smooth..no leaks. small lightweight..get the alum bodys for them, the stock plastic shock bodys flex a lil to much and it smooths up the travel. you can swap out rod ends to get the length you need i just swapped some xr rod ends on mine to gain some rear height on my chassis. any shock can leak if ya dont put it together right.. in generally speaking. |

x2 3.5 big bores with cap mod. Originally I was gonna try the stock shocks before putting the bb on but they started leaking before I even finished building the truck lol.

Depends on what chassis you are running and what your plans for the future are. 3.5" Traxxas big bores are one of the go to set ups. Do the cap mod, get some Jeepindoug spring cups, losi mini-t springs, and you will be set. I have recently used a set of the 3.75" big bores and really liked them.. Am thinking about doing a second set for a new truck. The other option, is to go with the Losi crawler shocks.. |

Im happy with scx shocks. Im still using the plastic bodies. I just wish a vendor would make an aluminum rod end cap for em. |

This is an old trick going back to the RC10 days, put a very thin o-ring on the body threads then fill with oil then (what I do anyway), push the piston up about 25mm, then screw on the cap which seals against the o-ring externally but a really thin o-ring tends to get compressed slightly under the cap giving a really good seal ...if you do this with the cap mod also make sure the screw through the cap is hermetically sealed to stop air getting in/oil getting out |

I like the stock shocks, I've had mine for over six months now and at least six comps and no leaks except for a little weeping. I had about the same results with the Losis too. Now the best shocks I ever built are the Tamiya TRFs or Kyosho velvets, both are great. I also like the Hot Bodies BB for 1/8 buggy. After 20+ years of building shocks I find the stock XR10 as good as most. |

I love my Duratrax Evaders. Super easy to bleed and they don't leak.

Does anyone know of longer rod ends that fit the stock shocks so I can get a little more clearance?

I put stock ax10 shock caps on mine and they don't leak and already have the o-ring inside them

I'm going through this dilemma right now... I have big bores on it right now but I would like to be able to run more springs other than the standard mini t which have too much preload in the initial installed position. I bought a set of the pro line scaler shocks but the >3mm shaft means I have to get into SAE in addition to the 99.9% metric fasteners I run and getting a rod end mixed up between the two could ruin your day if it fails. The scaler shocks have some weird ass super fine thread on the body which is something like an m10x0.5 if it were to exist. I understand that if you have a lathe you can cut any thread you want but that isn't the point. Ease of modification and practical/functional design are the most important features I would like to see a shock with these features- 10mm body Threaded body for infinite preload and spring choice Delrin and/or aluminum body and cap Uses o-rings to seal Standard thread sizes All metric Ti shaft Common seals or borrowed from another shock. Readily available parts Rod end capability on both ends 3.25" c-c up to 4.0" c-c adjustment with rod ends only. The one factor I haven't figured out yet is the reservoir. Emulsion shocks suck and so do bladders that swell and need replacing every time you open up the shock, like the big bores... I have 3 sets of new bladders because as soon as you use them, they are garbage. If I can figure out how to address the bladder as effectively as the rest of the shock, I'll give a company a full 3d model if they will make them. I have a set of SCX shocks on order so once I can compare the three, I'm going to start narrowing down my ideas and hopefully get a quality shock in the end. Anyone have thoughts? |

Hmm, been thinking about trying the SCX or Evader shocks. The only thing holding me back on the SCX shocks is finding the right springs.

I use the stock shocks. They do leak, but just a little. Buy the Alum Cap and switch to the Traxxas bladders. I usually do my refills after about 5 long run days and to find that very little has leaked out. IMO Stick with the Axial shocks with the grey springs front and rear, they are great shocks.
