Default RockDrifter's Chaotic

SO i have had this chassis for awhile now and have been really pleased with it.

Purchased the CC Pro LW w/ 1/16th cab from 53willy when he switched to carbon.

Rocked it for a few comps. Learned new setups and took it to UT State Champs in St George.

Broke the cab in 2 spots, cooked 2 fxr's and the cc bec. Needless to say it called for some serious rebuilding.

Going to school for Advanced Composites Manufacturing and Engineering has its benefits when needing to get spendy materials.

Laid up 4 different carbon panels with differing layup directions and materials.

The main chassis side plates are cut from 2mm 282 Prepreg Carbon.

The cab is cut from 1.4mm uni directional with 282 for looks.

The other plates i made for this experiment are 1.2mm Uni, laid up in a
-,+,90,90 orientation. This stuff was scary thin and i thought it would hold up... but no. stress splinters after a 3ft tumble made me re think comp'ing with it.

So here is a pic of my current set up. ( no Skinz ) yet. Got me a fresh set for painting.

Killer clearance

CC Chassis
CC Ti Links
Dlux wheels Ft 725 Hub @.5 width Rears 850+1/8 spacer Hub @ .7 width
7980 @7.4v
XXL BigBores (mini t pinks all around)
Castle Micro Sidewinders
CC BEC
Novak 45ts (want some brood action)
4pl
R2104GF
500mah and 850's
Shaved Losi Claws w/ CI DD 5" Narrow inners and Soft Outters
Al Hardware where i could get it
All plastic xcept VP knucks.

RTR Weight w/o knuckle weights or skinz 3lbs 12 oz

Bias.... wanting to go forward with this... picking up some Dlux knuckle weights tomorrow along with some carbon wheel faces... and a paper scale to get solid figures...

thinking of ways to shed more...

Ideas? i dont know if going to Delrin Braces will save that much but its an option.

Hey just curious, why don't you have a rear axle brace? Also why do you have your rear wheels so narrow? Nice truck btw

Looks like the servo and the shocks are areas you could drop some weight if you wanted to.

seen a few guys running w/o one... figured the axle flex is just gonna happen... and im on a kick to see how light i can go.

I have ran the Losi BC's fat and skinny... at 1" wheels they worked very well... At the last comp i was at i got to Judge. Shamrock Showdown in St George. Almost everyone running claws out back had them pretty narrow.

RCBoxer is the driver that sold me on the shaved BC's on .7's

And most of the Y-Town guys too. Manu took 1st and i want to say he is skinny in the rear too.

try it... you can always go back!

SCX10 Shocks? not a fan of leaky shocks that like to adjust themselves..

And the servo is huge... but im in love with its absurd overkill power.

if Mark and Nick of Chaotic are going where i think they are... the wait is worth it. They have some great contributing crawlers that know whats working.

Krawl put out a killer platform... and it took some time to get his next level out... and its cool as hell...

Chaotic is stepping up to that. Ill be in line too Mark!

Well the SCX shocks are one option, but if you're stuck on the big bores then maybe some time on the lathe with them...

I don't blame you on the servo...I've got one on my sporty rig and it sure is fun to move rocks around

Subscribed

1. Al top links will be lighter than Ti
2. Long steel screws could be swapped & shortened for Ti to save weight
3. Get the shocks in a lathe and turn down the hexes
4. I like the super clocked rear axle, I went down that route too and mounted the rear lower links and shocks in the same place as you - so the original lower mount can be got rid of for more weight

...what weight oil and pistons are you running?

20 in the rear with a 3 hole 15 in the front with a 2 hole.

The rear could be softer... but i think its a binding problem more than shocks.

i know my rear uppers need to be remade.. they are just what i had for the build but the hit the top of the motor when its clocked up that high.

Some things i have read through out the Light builds are the Al balls from Traxxis anyone know the part # off the top of their head?

and another thing i cant seem to place is on some of the Agent builds they have a spacer under the VP top link mount... is this a home made job? or is some one selling a kit to get the final drive gear in the right spot still?

Full Extension

Normal Ride height ( Hand placed )

See its hitting the motor can, severely affecting the rear suspension action.

Im gonna give the Al a go... i can grab some of that stuff from the HomeDpot and it should be soft enough for my cheapo tap n die set to thread.

Also ordered up some more Al hardware from FastenersExpress should be here Monday.

Dlux may be able to cut me some delrin chassis braces that will be lighter than the axial Al's.

Im also debating tearing down the trans to perform the Swiss Cheesing that Krawl has done... along with others.... but is the invitation for dirt and small rocks worth the grams of weight savings?

I want to be extreme n' all but i dont have the income like he does. lol
