| Bullet Proof Build
Being new to crawling and willing to spend some money to get set up right, is there a thread that I can't find or a list to set up a low failure rate rig with quality parts? I don't think I need be set up for comp, but if that's where I end up then so be it. I've looked at Harley's thread and got some ideas, but there are lots of variables and maybe it comes down to experience and preference. Thanks for the help.

Hi, the weak point on the XR is usually the gears and axle flexing ! motor plate drilling or replacing for bearing mod, rc4wd gears, transmission cases if you can, chubs & lockouts to make axles solid, knuckles (VP) to go zero ackermann, BWD brace to make rear axle beefy and the thing should already be pretty strong... Some guys here recommend to take links mounts also. One more thing, change upper links for axial 30° bent ones . But if you don't use strong motors and adapt your driving, stock kit should be fine... |

I don't think you need all that to have a sturdy rig. All you really need is a bushing in the upper link mount. 9mm bearings instead of the 8mm's and maybe vp cases. Other than that I think you will be fine.

if you do the vp motor plate and tranny case do you still have to do the 9mm bearing mod

No vp gives you 10mm size bearings with the plate

I think the best thing that I could do honestly would be to buy one already built and get familiar with it, but what fun is that Besides, being new to the forum, I'll have to wait for a few more post's until I can see the classified section to see if there's anything like what I want for sale.

That's pretty much what I was looking for! Is there also an aftermarket aluminium or metal axle tube rather than plastic? Might not even be necessary.

Check vanquish for Metal axle tops, although many deem them unnecessary
