Gear case resistance?
 

Finally got everything assembled! but im wondering how difficult the Gears should be to turn buy hand?? My fully assembled front diff with motor!! no tires or rims is very hard to turn buy hand just grabbing the hexes??? If I put the tires on it turns quite easily but seems stiff to me??? Im used to ball and gear diffs from short course trucks etc.. Any thoughts would be great!! thanks Oh and how much? what grease do you guys use?? ;-)

Don't forget that you've got considerable gear reduction in these axles.

With a wheel on, you likely have ~8X the torque available to use to rotate the motor compared to just using the axle hex.:roll:

I realize this!! But are they normally kinda tough to turn etc?? Maybe gets better with break in?

When I first built mine there was a lot of drag on the front axle and some rough spots. So much so that I dissembled it thinking something was wrong. Both times I went step by step and double checked the screws etc... Not sure what the issue was but after a few packs it loosened up. The rear was a little tight but not any more then you would expect from a brand new axle.

mine was the same way, just grease them up good and they will be fine, I was worried about it the same as you are. What part of Canada you in?

First of all there are no diffs in the XR-10, you have two live axles and no differentials.

Second, the gear reduction to get it to crawl means that you will have a hard time to spin the axle without any leverage, try turning the gear that the motor pinion drives, it will be very easy to turn.

Third, if it does get very easy to turn by the hex then you have a gear problem.

As far as how much grease, just enough to coat the gears.

Thanks guys!! And im in Chilliwack B.C!! I know there not diffs! But i want to make sure everything is good before I put the power to it etc.. Appreciate the help guys!!
