Here's the thread that explains my first build using the Viper 1 chassis from UGC.

I've been wanting to overhaul this rig for a while, and I'm almost at the point of being done.

I've been doing some major updates to my XR10 over the last few months with a few simple goals:

1) Reduce overall weight,

2) Increase forward bias,

3) Reduce rotating mass.

I feel that I've been sucessful at achieving these goals so far. My success wouldn't have been possible without some incredible vendors on this site.

First up is Erik from DLuxFab.

His new wheels are an amazing leap forward in RC crawler technology. Erik is not only an innovator, but arguably offers the BEST customer service in the business.







I'm using his 'V cut' Carbon faced wheels with Carbon backside rings on all 4 corners. I'm running a pretty narrow setup at just less than .7" wide at each corner. Not only are these wheels incredibly easy to assemble, they hold a bead very well. As you can see in the pic above, 1 wheel with full Al hardware, a shaved Sedona and CI DD closed cell inner foam only tips the scale at 5.2oz.

The CI DD closed cell inner foams were picked up at EastCoast RC.
East Coast RC, ecrchobbies, RC Rock Crawlers.

The guys are great to deal with and offer great services for the crawling community.

I'm using the narrow inners with soft outers up front and medium outers at the rear. Time will tell how they perform.

The fine folks at Vanquish also helped me out by bringing their Knuckle Weight Add On rings back into production.

I picked up a small selection of add on rings that will let me quickly and easily adjust the weight bias. I plan to start out with 3 partial .125 rings mounted low on the main weights.







They weigh .85oz each.

I`ve also got some big .375 rings incase I want to up the knuckle weight a lot.

Next up was a Super Smash ESC job from Chris at CreationFab. I wanted to trim down the size and weight of my Mamba Micro Pros and CCBec, and despite the GREAT job that Rob from Krawler Konceptz did when I first built the rig, Chris was the man to take things one step further.

I`ve also done some smaller mods to help reduce weight:

All rod ends now have aluminum hollow balls instead of steel,
I`ve replaced about 75% of the hardware with Aluminum,
I`ve trimmed down some peices:

So, of course, you`re all probably wondering why I`ve titled this thread `Viper 2`... That`s the last piece of the puzzle that I`m waiting to be delivered so I can get this XR10 rolling again.

I want to send out a huge THANK YOU to Juan and the rest of the Underground Crawlers Team for all the hard work and endless hours of developement that has gone into creating the new chassis. I can`t wait to scratch it up

I have some leftover panels from the initial build that`ll get me started, but a new chassis deserves new skinz!

Ha, I know exactly what you mean... I had so much of it in pieces over the last while, that I was used to not having use of it. When I ordered the new chassis, I pulled out the old one. I thought I`d weigh it too.

This is with full panel skinz, SS hardware, and the OG fat CF sides:



6.1oz!!!

Front axle, complete with links, shocks, receiver, everything VP, RC4wd gears, and knuckle weight:

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'll be getting this thing assembled as soon as the new chassis arrives. It's going to be like having a completely new rig. I hope I can get enough drive time on it before my first comp this season.

great transformation you got here man cant wait to see the new chassis..i just sold my ax10 vp chassis so i am thinking of upgrading from the viper 1 to the 2...what links are you running? and since yours are apart could you give me a exact length on the upper and lowers front and rear. i seen that there was some measurements on the viper 2 thread but that was on a assembled rig thanks man..

I'm using the Chaotic Crawlers lower links for the BJv4 with Revo ends and straight Lunsford uppers with Revo and Jato ends. I can get eye to eye measurements tomorrow, but honestly I don't know yet if what I have is going to work. All I've done so far is shorten my lowers by about 1/4". I'm hoping this gets me close to 12.5" wb with the new chassis. I won't know for sure until it arrives and I get everything bolted up.

If you are already using the Viper chassis and you are happy with your wheelbase, all you'll need to do is shorten you lowers by a bit. Your uppers should be fine. This was advise that I got from Articzap a while ago. He is also using the new Viper with XR axles.

If you are already using the Viper chassis and you are happy with your wheelbase, all you'll need to do is shorten you lowers by a bit. Your uppers should be fine. This was advise that I got from Articzap a while ago. He is also using the new Viper with XR axles.

Well, if you plan to keep the V1 chassis, I'd recommend lengthening your lowers to bring your wb closer to the 12.5" max. You'll find the longer wb will help your overall performance. If you plan to switch to the Viper 2 chassis, try out your current links and see how close you are. It sounds like you may still need to lengthen them a bit. Good luck.

When I get the new chassis I'll post up some detailed link specs. I've heard rumor of the UGC team working on a dedicated set of Ti links for the new chassis, but there's no certainty that it will ever happen.
