FRONT LOWERS...which is best? Im currently running chaotic bent front lowers on my "switch", but i've been seeing alot of top drivers switching to staight front lowers. Whats better and why? I had the straight FL on my stock xr10 last year and hated them, so I'm puzzled. Someone please explain pros and cons. |
Re: FRONT LOWERS...which is best? I think the drivers that are switching to straight lowers on the front are the ones running 60/40 bias. |
Re: FRONT LOWERS...which is best? What did you hate about straight front lowers? |
Re: FRONT LOWERS...which is best? I know what your talking about. I'm running the rock show chassis and started with curved delrin front links then bought some titanium links that are straight. I lost alot of clearance and it feels like I drag and get hung up more. With the 60/40 it pushes the chassis close to the front tires so you can get away with straight but the 50/50 you need the bend to help with belly clearance. Not sure what a pro is for running straights on a 50/50 set up but the con is clearance (break over). I thought the straights would be good for sliding over stuff but when it comes to ledges/climbs you want your front tire to reach over and grab thats where the bent links work. |
Re: FRONT LOWERS...which is best? Also it all depends on what terrain your driving on as well. Big rounded rocks you could get away with straight links, but with jagged links or ledges bent links help out. 8) |
Re: FRONT LOWERS...which is best? I use front Ti lowers that are bent to clear the motor but otherwise they're straight. |
On a chassis with an angled skid, I have always liked straight front lowers, but we have quite a bit of undercut dropoffs in our terrain around here. The straight lowers will help push the front end out and away from the undercut rather than letting it get sucked into it and flipping the truck. I have never had an issue with breakovers with them... |

OP, some of this depends on the rig bias (50/50 vs. 60/40) and the typical courses you run. Some courses seem to accept straight lower links, some reward bent lower links. Too many variables to give you a precise answer. Sorry. PS, I run with Turbofest and a few other "Nats type guys", the only thing that will help me is a new rig & driver.... Sigh. You know a course is bad when the designer says, "I screwed this up!". |
