looks like your are off to a good start. as far as upgrades that is an endless discussion. i would read up on posts and see what guys are doing. as for things that will help in the longevity of it most importantly would be i think to upgrade to hardened gears. and maybe look up Mark reels xr build and the mod he did for his rear diff to help out with strengthening it up to keep it more intact........ have a look around there is lots to learn by just reding up on all the builds. Good luck I am sure it will work out great for you. |

Yea i was thinking one of the hardened gear sets and maybe big bearing gear box and motor plate. i like the vanquish aluminum link mounts, trannys and axles are these worth it or would they add too much weight even though its mostly down low? I also like vanquish aluminum wheels like the pro comps as i used to have some on my old losi comp crawler. i know the xr10 kit comes with plastic vanquish wheels that will still take the wheel weights |

There are so many directions you can go with your XR10, your best bet is to go through as many of the "build threads" and get ideas of what you want yours to be. Do you want a lightweight rig? Does weight matter to you? Bodied truck, bodiless? Any upgrades from VP are the best if you choose to swap out the stock plastic/axle items. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

x2 on upgraded gears. I suggest dropping the stage 1 alum parts in favor of VP knuckles and CHub. You'll get more steering and be setup for the VP knuckle weights. You also don't need the alum rear lockouts, the stock ones are plenty strong enough. I made the same mistake and now have to rebuy the parts to get the extra steering from the VP parts. I went back to the stock lockouts about 6 months ago and haven't had any problems. Also pick up a pack of traxxas shims part#1985 to take up the slop in the f/r axles. Don't forget the picks when you get started, good luck |

I have added some upgrades over the past month in which I added to my original post. I am planning on getting some more soon. Here is a list of things im going to order this week with my income tax unless anyone has any better ideas. I would like some input on some of this especially which links and which bodiless chassis to get. Im thinking switch, mantis, or the thing. Also does anyone know a webbsite that has a front axle battery plate actually in stock? - front axle mounted battery tray -smaller batteries (Currently running 1300 mah) -set of rear vp slw wheels probably version 4 or maybe pro comps for front and put my current slw's on the rear (suggestions)? -new set of links -bodiless chassis -longer servo horn my current one wont give me full throw with my extended steering arm. -new foams -vp knuckles and chubs -vp weights for front -lightweight machined gears for rear axle -lighter springs Im not going to order everything this week but over the next few. This week it will be the chassis and links, servo horn and probably battery plate. Maybe the vp wheels too if i can swing it money wise. |

I know this is a newbie sort of question But what are the advantages and disadvantages of a lightweight crawler as opposed to 1 with A few wheel weights up front and a couple in the rear. I mean I get that being lighter would have some handling advantages but Wouldn't you lose some grip with a light weight rig? im Only asking because I am trying to figure out which route I'm going to go Before I get troo much further in my build. also Is there any advantage to getting the vp chubs or Will my axial aluminum ones Work with the VP Knuckles Because that would save me some dough |

I'm going to order my bodiless chassis and links tomorrow night. I'm thinking I'm going to go with either the Switch the Mantis or the rock show. Anyone know the advantages and disadvantages to each Other than the obviously huge amount of rear breakover Clearance of the Mantis chassis?

Ok lastnight I ordered chaotic switch carbon chassis with the switch special titanium links along with the chassis panels and revo rod ends. I also ordered two more vp slw v4 wheels to go with the two I ordered last week. I fell asleep before I could find any vp knuckles and a rowdy racing front axle battery mount in stock online anywhere. Anyone know where I can find these two things in stock this wknd? After i am able to find and order the battery mount and vp knuckles i hope to have enough cash left over to purchase some CI double deuce 5.25 foams (soft or medium) and maybe the brass vp knuckle weights. Are the foams I just listed the correct ones I need for my rig? I searched on here and some were saying 5.5 and some 5.25 and some soft or some medium or firm. I plan on building a light weight rig but probably not an ultralight one so im thinking the 5.25's. Im deff wanting to stay under six pounds, maybe somewhere between 5 to 5 1/2. I guess the soft ones are the ones I would need. Im new to this so I could be waaaayyy off here so please correct me if im wrong.

The weight of the truck in the end will determine what foams you'll need to run. For rovers I'd run 5.5's, but you need to get a weight to figure out foam firmness and so on.

Hmm.. seems ur goin to have a hard time getting it to weigh 5.5lbs.. lol.. after the Switch an vp wheels, depending on electronics, you should be right around 5lbs maybe a little under.. I didn't do anything to lighten mine when I built it with the switch Delrin, originally, an hit like 4lbs 11oz or something close.. For rovers, CI 5.5" with soft fronts an med rears was the ticket. My tires are shaved as well.. if you plant to get to mid to bottom 4lbs, then maybe 5.25" foams.. I still run the 5.5's at 4lbs 1oz.. in my rovers an Bc's(boss claws) |

I ordered 2 sets of soft foams foams and the carbon switch chassis and links. I also ordered the Vanquish knuckles And the 2 other vanquish SLW wheels. I still need to find a front mount battery plate And order the vp knuckle weights. I weighed my crawler earlier and it was At. Between 5 and a half to 6 pounds. But that was with a regular scale I need to get a small 1 that's more accurate. I would actually like my rig to be around 4 and a half pound when I get done with it and it should be when I put those upgrades On is that what you're sayin I will also order some medium foams When I get the chance. Do I need to order some of those side insert foams also? It says they are good for Off camber side hillng

Yea I have had it built for about a month now and took it out a few times. But only with the stock chassis and wheels and foams and links lol. I did however install my vp tranny cases, motor plates, cc tie rod and hardened lightweight gears a week ago. My carbon switch chassis and links along with the vp slw wheels, ci double deuce foams, and vp knuckles should be in this week sometime. I am trying to figure out what shocks to buy next. I want some better ones. Im prrobably gonna go with traxxas big bores or the scx10 shocks and lighter springs. Or maybe kyosho velvet but wIting on some suggestions from those much more experienced then I am which is pretty much everyone on here. I tried sending pics of it to my email so I coud post them on here the other day but my email locked up. I will probably try again after al my new stuff comes in. Any idea on the shocks I should buy? |

Being away from all my high speed gear back in the states, I utilize uncle sugar. I weigh all my stuff at the post office! As for shocks, all 3 mentioned are a good choice. Go with the 3.5" length for the Switch chassis though. And I'll come out and say it.. TTIWWOP. This Thread Is Worthless Without Pics. Do work driver! |
