How many are still comping......

with a stock chassis?

Or what's left of it?

With all these Switches & Zero's etc, popping up, I was wondreing how many are still pimping the original chassis.

Even if you've switched to Chaotic links, or VP parts,or even CF Axial chassis, or whatever, who is still competing with the original XR chassis?

Just curious.....

I dont think many are on this site at least. Here its kinda like the "state-of-the-art" i guess you could say, so you wont see much stock stuff lying around here, but im sure there is still a few out there.

I have the Axial CF plates still and the last comp I ran in the end of 2012 (Rausch creek) I got first place against mostly bodiless XRs and Bergs so I guess its still competitive for the most part. The newer chassis on the market offer better ground clearance while keeping everything low and a narrower skid.

I have a fancy lightweight XR10 and a stock chassis XR10 that I did well with last year. I was happy with the stock for the most part, switched out the links and it worked great."thumbsup"

Re: How many are still comping......

I modified the stock chassis SEVERELY with my cutoff wheel about 2 weeks after I purchased the truck, when they were released.
Rocked the stock chassis for about 6 or 7 months and then the aftermarket caught up and there were tons out there.
Started with a V1 Viper, from Underground Crawlers, then on to V2, and now my own version of the chassis.
The stock chassis is not a bad chassis at all, just has some limitations. I think it is a great platform to get started with.
That being said, don't be afraid to try your own thing and experiment.
If it doesn't work, and you want to go back, I am sure there is someone that would give you their stock chassis, right?

I still have my stock everything. I'm contemplating building it again...but I need another set of axles. I'll probably start collecting parts here soon. Get it together and maybe my youngest can come crawling with me.

This makes me wonder how much clearance everyone has, stock chassis or not. I have 3 5/8"

AddictedtoRC1 02-04-2013 10:41 PM

I'm at 4 7/8" here.

Re: How many are still comping......

Thanks for the replies guys.

My set up is similar to Hildy's, and am only in my second year of comps.

I'm competing in our novice class right now, but with luck and some good driving, I can move up.

Most of the guys are running switches of some version, or BJ chassis.

Good to here that with some more practice it's still a viable chassis.

About 4.25" at front of skid, with t1e special ops.
