| LaaLaa's NCD SuDu Pro-totype This is the story of my new 2.2 pro crawler. My old homemade rig, LaaLaa Special, was very capable but I was “forced” to sell it for most promising young driver in Finland. LaaLaa Special had many custom made parts like full BTA steering, front shock link mounts, modified VP link mounts, custom servo mount etc etc. Nothing compared to Egressor’s creation but well over 100h only machining time with my manual mill. This year and in the future I will spend more time with family than my garage as we got new baby girl last spring. This new crawler will have more standard parts from different vendors and I try to keep it as simple as possible. Basic idea is RTR weight around 1700g and add some knuckle weights to get it more stable than my old special. Last autumn I started to persuade Tomy (Nordic Crawler Design) for doing new lighter and lower CoG chassis. Finally on Christmas time we made the deal that I can become as guinea pig for this new SuDu Pro chassis. I will test all kind of things with this and try to improve SuDu Pro chassis as competitive as possible. Mid-January post man brought precious delivery to my door Project started from building the photo shooting “studio” ;) Light holder is made of all kind of crap found from garage I have collect parts for this new rig since last August and here’s small pile of them I was lucky to find brand new Bully with decent parts. Brood creep 35t motors and Hitec 7950 servo will be reused for this new project. All other will be sold or maybe I sell that as rtr w/ cheaper parts. So here is short list of parts I’m planning to use: Axial stock axle plastics Traxxas Oilite bearings Axial titanium gear safts RC4WD gears VP Chubs + Wraith knuckles Brood 35t motors Sidewinder Micros CCbec Hitec 7950 350mAh 65-130C Turnigy 3s lipos Al and titanium fasteners SCX10 shocks w/ Egressor’s bodies NCD titanium links Wheels and tires are still more or less open, need to test few options. And of course everybody is interested about that scale reading. Some shorter spacers and screws made it under 60g. Al screws and final CF version would be well under 50, at least I hope so |

| Re: LaaLaa's NCD SuDu Pro-totype That has been in my mind also but here is the answer. It's drilling jig for RC4WD stepped gear. Smallest hole is for showing the correct place for every 4th teeth. M5 hex screw is gun drilled. I used the jig just for drilling small 1mm deep marks to the gears. Final holes were then drilled in the mill. 2 sets of gears are now ~30% lighter Sorry for those acid marks in scale, new clean is in order I noticed that some of the rc4wd gears were harder and some were softer. Normal HSS drill was used for drilling w/o any problems. One spare set is ordered just in case. |

Wow that's impressive! I have found the gears to be semi-easy to drill once you get through the outside hard layer. I used solid carbide drill but that wasn't easy making sure it didn't munch on me. I did 7 gears with 1 drill Just wondering whats the specs on that lathe. It looks impressive |

It's been used in middle school as education machine all of it's life. It has been running only few hours per week so it's on good shape. Today I turned small tool for HPI wheel narrowing. One finnish hobby shop was selling HPI3031 wheels for 1€/pair Those will be perfect for XR10 rear axle after narroving from inner edge. They will be 0.8" wide and ~13g. Here is Pasi's video of 1st narrowing w/o tool. With that new tool narrowing will be much easier and sharper. video-2013-03-01-22-03-20 - YouTube | |
