Default Sourdough's Rock Spider Re-Build

Here is the start to my rebuild, truck fully disassembled and ready to clean up!

I'm over here at the CreationFab shop today, so I'm going to do my best to give live updates as we make progress!

My smashed up BRXL's with CC BEC

Chris went to town on milling my gears to shed some serious grams!

I made new lower links out of 3/16" aluminum 7075 rod to replace the Ti links.
I ran the lathe by hand to cut the threads to 10-24.

New carbon tube for upper links. 4.8mm tube and I drilled the rod ends to 3/16".

I decided to ditch the Ti Cab for the Carbon version

Also had Chris lathe down my rear Ti shaft (rear axle has the "front axle mod")
for a 3x8 bearing. My front axle has the bigger VP bearing upgrade and a steel shaft since I snapped my Ti one at a comp.

The new bearing for the rear axle is 3mm wide compared to the stock 2.5mm. So I had to break out the dremel and clearance the bearing pocket.

I got the axles put back together yesterday... Nothing too exciting there, new bearings and fresh grease.

Got the chassis bolted back together, and all the links clearanced in the right spots late last night and took a quick picture.

Thank you! Are you coming to Arizona next weekend?

I got my electronics figured out tonight and was able to put my 2 Holmes BRXL ESC's and hobbyking RX on a Rowdy plate. The Castle BEC is going behind the servo. And 450Mah CheapBatteryPacks on the front axle, 3S or 4S depending on my mood I guess...

I almost forgot to post up pics of the sweet Shift Hubs that I won!

Huge thanks to BC Brian, and they fit perfect with my RcBro's knuckle weights.

My steering works great with my RcBro's 6mm extended steering arms too!

Huge thanks to FreqE for making sweet skinz for my trucks and radio!

Hey Sourdough,

Glad you like the Hubs. They look mighty fine on your rig.

Yep

Boca sells a 3x8x2.5mm bearing that will work without any case mods. I've been running them since not long after I saw EGRESSor's and they have held up great.

Yeah I saw it on egressor's build also (that guy is pure genious!)

I got the panels all finished, wiring finished and actually drove it on some rocks last night. Now tonight after work I have to pack everything up and us Northwesterners are headed down to AZ for the shootout.

Hope see a bunch of you guys there!

I brought it with me to work today to get it shined up

Nice work on the truck, it looks bad ass. Not to kiss ass but I feel its the best looking XR I have seen. I was lucky enough to drive the truck and it drives great. I really like what you did with the upper links. I cant believe how much weight you lost with that, plus the money you saved. Its a win win. Make sure to represent the Oregon boys in AZ

The truck drove really well this weekend in AZ! I aced the first 3 courses and by lunch I was sitting at a -90. I made some major mental mistakes and didn't finish the last two courses But I had a great time and us PNW represented for sure! Can't wait to crawl in AZ again

I really enjoyed meeting people and putting faces to screen names haha

The truck help up great BTW, my only carnage was a broken roof that happened off course, and flat tire

How do you mount the rod ends to these carbon links?

THanks

I just used some clear 2 part epoxy from the hobby shop (still holding up great!)

The name of the chassis is the "Rock Spider" it was designed by Fallout. And unfortunately, not available any more. RcBro's will be selling the new version of this chassis very soon though!
