| A Rebirth Of Cast Offs on Chaotic Smash
As much as this is a new build for me I am sure that there are several people out there that will recognize the vast majority of what is going in it as they used to own it. In a twisted way I may have helped fund some of the other builds going on right now, kinda ironic. After a ton of reading and a bunch of questions (thanks to those who took their time and answered them for me) I started collecting parts from the classifieds here and since the bulk of what I have purchased is here and some what test fit I figure that it was time to throw it all together. What better time to do so than during a contest like this. Awsome contest BTW thanks for the opportunity to be a part of it. There is no place to comp the thing any where around here, closest is a 6 hour drive away so the rig may not be a show stopper but it should be very competent none the less. I will need to tear it all down now at this point and reassemble paying attention to loctite and proper length hardware as a final build. At this point it is all just in a test fit situation as the parts and pieces were arriving. I will post pics during the reassembly and I am still waiting on a couple things to actually have it finished. I will post the specs for the time being with pics to follow. | Re: A Rebirth Of Cast Offs ***EDIT*** Decided to swap out my chassis choice here and ordered the Chaotic 2.2 Switch Smash chassis with Chaotic links. I knew deep down that I wasn't going to be happy till I had a serious full suspension comp crawler so the chassis switch was made. The Mantis will wind up with a set of Bully axles that I have kicking around. Last edited by jaloos; 11-03-2013 at 02:45 PM. |

The wheels are Vanquish SLW V6's also from the classifieds. The pic from the ad, they havs a tiny bit of rock rash on the rings nothing major though. And now as they sit with a little flat black paint and a good bake in the oven, yes the wife is aware of my using her oven even made her wait to use it while the rings were baking. Lookin pretty dam good with the Voodoo's on them. For the time being the Voodoo's are stuffed with some home made 5 inch foams with a 1 inch memory foam ring and some closed cell discs. They seem decent enough but when the 5.5 Double Deuce foams make it here I am sure they will be getting switched out. |

| Re: A Rebirth Of Cast Offs ****EDIT**** Changed my mind on the big bores and went with SCX shocks, Losi MRC silver springs and Jeepindoug cups. Shocks are done with the cap mod and using Jeepindoug Mini T Spring Cups and Mini T Springs. I can see a set of Wicked Ends for them in the near future. Hey, looks good Jaloos. Make sure you post some video when you get all those parts together. You ought to call it Top Secret since so many of the parts are classified. Cheers eh, Todd |

Front axle is all mocked up, waiting the the weights. Had to make my own steering arms last order I placed with RCBros they were out of stock and I cant find another set. They will do till I get a set somewhere. Link mount still needs to be installed. Question though with an SLW wheel what size of hub is the norm? I just picked up a set of SLW V1 as well so I will have the option of usin a .7 or 1 inch wide wheel. Am thinking of using the .7 wheel with a 725 hub in the front and the 1 inch wheel with a 600 in the rear. Let me know if I am wayy out to lunch here. Last edited by jaloos; 10-31-2013 at 08:29 AM. |

With the typical 1" slw wheel.. I ran .475 in the front and the .600 in the rear.. So maybe the .600 in the front and the .725 in the rear.. the front is already wider, no need to make it even wider.. causes gate issues.. |

Change of plans today. Decided I wasn't going to be happy till I had a full suspension chassis and ordered the Chaotic 2.2 Switch Smash with links. The 2 free Voodoo's didn't hurt the decision process any either and now I can grab a set of silvers for the front of it anyway. Thanks for the making the offer such a good one guys. Now I will have some extra time to tear the axles down and do the final assembly. Gonna need a full set of big bores now with Wicked ends and Jeepindoug cups as well. What size shocks are people running on this chassis anyway? Last edited by jaloos; 11-03-2013 at 05:47 AM. |

That's a dam shame.. get the ti ones when you get them. I have been running them for the life of my chaotic links and couldn't be happier! I had to steal a pair off the front of the lower links for my sporty. Ya just don't realize how much of a help they are, until they aren't there! |

Great update day today. Gotta thank a few people for their excellent help. First off I gotta say thanks to Chaotic Crawlers for getting back to me on a question and going out of their way to get me the sliders in my order with zero delay. Wicked customer service can't say enough about it, extremely pleased with my customer experience with them. The 2 free Voodoo tires are just the cherry on the icing that is their customer service. Second I need to thank winnerone23, I posed a few questions to him about tuning up the Chaotic Smash and I got extremely great answers from links, to setup to shocks. I have been talking with him for a while now on this chassis and he was pretty much the one who convinced me that it was what I was looking for. He had set me straight on a few misconceptions and ideas I had and saved me allot of trial and error. with as much knowledge that he shared with me I would have thought he worked or drove for Chaotic. A very good ambassador to the hobby. Third Wicked Wolf RC. He had a contest and had a deal on the Wicked Ends that was exactly what he said. Picked up the Wicked ends and the Jeepindoug cups from him and he gave me the sweet deal on the pair. Excellent hobby support and customer service. So update for today is: Chaotic 2.2 Switch Smash Chaotic Switch Bodiless Titanium Links Dlux Fab titanium link sliders 4mm Revo Rod Ends SCX Shocks Losi MRC Pro Silver Springs Jeepindoug Spring Cups My Wallet Hurts ROFL Last edited by jaloos; 11-03-2013 at 02:27 PM. |
