You really don't want the axle case to be aluminum ... It's very heavy ... The transmission cases are made by vp and hot racing .. The hot racing ones are lighter and come with larger bearings like the vp ones ... The vp ones are hard to find I have a few if you're looking

Sexy shouldn't matter .... Weight and performance means more than sexy

My XR-10 with the alum tops, link mounts, motor plates and transmission cases (centers of cases are stock plastic) weighs in at 3lb 14oz. So to say your rig can't be light with them is a false statement. That's with knuckle weight too. Just remember when shedding weight every gram counts towards the end result! Are they necessary probably not but I like the fact I can run the big bearings and throttle out of anything with no worries! Just my 2 cents!

mine xr10 reptile is 1880g,that is with 50g on each knuckle,so it`s 100g just in brass,
but that weight was before I got the alutops from vp and the linkmounts also from vp,,I used the calderwood design carbonfiber linkmount and are very happy with that...
I have not compared the weight off the alutops vs the stock plastic ones, but I`ll guess they are maby 4-50g more each vp-top..
but I will still end up under 2kg with 100g on the knuckles and that is with ALL the vanquish parts that ever have been made..

My ready to run weight with batteries and knuckle weight is just over 3 pounds ..... So almost a pound lighter than you I have delrin cases so I have big bearings as well ... There's no real benefit to the aluminum top other than looks ....if you're afraid of the small gear shaft bearing swap to brass if you're heavy and pop gears do the screw mod ... You don't need an
Aluminum axle to mount shocks to lol shocks absorb impact .....
