Default Front axle options?

G'day all

What are to options for the XR these days as far as front axles go?

Seems VP has stoped making the VVDs, and a few other that used to be a round are not doing it any more :(

So does that mean we are literally stuck with Axial unis now......when in stock and not breaking

Modded uni's are better then vvd's.. IMO..

I've replaced vvd's in my XR, wraith(V1 and V2), and soon my scx, for axial uni's.
I haven't broke one in 3+ yrs.

I've broken the stub shafts, at the hex pins, but I have done that to vvd's as well.

Yes, I know axial had one bad run of uni's..
But other then that, if you broke a uni at the ears, I call it user/setup error..

I did XR steering in a venom creeper back in 12' to today in my 1.9, 2.2s, 2.2p, Sexo/wraith(running a 3500kv HD on 4s), yeti (3000kv HD on 4s) and soon in my scx (running HH 3100kv on 4s).. The only thing that will remain with vvd's in it, is my TF2. (Cause the modded TF2 axle's and lead springs won't allow for the full steering anyways) lol..

But.. If you want vvd's in your XR. Buy a set of wraith vvd's and a spare long side wraith shaft. It will be 85$ plus shipping(which is cheaper then they where originally) and you can cut them to length and you can file nice snug fitting tangs into them.

EDIT: Here's some pics on the mod..
Clamp bottom ear and drive small pin out.

The rest falls apart.

File or dremel the ears. Where you see them hitting each other.

And you get something like this.. Don't forget to do the outer part either. They hit the inside's.

You get smooth steering, like this

Yeah, that's a 1.9..

They had one bad batch a little while ago. But apart from that they uni's have been really solid.

I would do it myself,,, I have a friend who bought a pair off 70* uni`s from dlux and one off them broke before he had the crawler outside...
and dlux says it is axial who have made some bad unis,,maby they have, but the job is very simple to do youreself,, not worth to pay dlux 15$ for a 20min job..

Considering your friend's broke at the same time EVERYONE'S new ones started breaking.. XR and wraith.. I'm pretty sure it's s safe bet..
(I'm sure we have already had that conversation tho)

It's not about how long it takes Erik or us to do the job. It's a Service for those that can't or don't want to!
And if you can find a set of XR uni's for 30$.. I want 10 sets! Do share..
