5d negative space ti wheels look cool.

Chassis looks cool, too.

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

So before I get into this thread I'd like to share a brief history ... I had seen this chassis get released and thought it was funny looking and hadn't seen many threads going on and I was driving a secret agent at the time ... I saw it in action at the qualifier in pa last summer and liked what I saw ... I was most impressed watching it drive at worlds though ... Which is where I got a chance to drive one and fell in love .... Had to have one right then and there ... Bmachinerc was at worlds and I stalked him in the parking lot ready to mug him but he only had a delrin one with him and I'm a sucker for carbon so we exchanged info and I messaged him and purchased one later that night ... It arrived and I spent most of the winter looking at it collecting dust while I was collecting parts .... Then I got the bright idea to make this thing crazy and do it the justice it deserved so I sold most of those parts to buy and make a bunch of other parts to achieve 3 pounds rtr .... So slowly but surely I started building ....... I hear about a dude named robbob who started crawling in my area again and found him ... Come to find out he had a krazed build going on of his own for a super light rig ... I purchased some of his parts and we talked tips and tricks and I revised a few things using his parts and sent him some of mine and kept building ......

So I'd like to thank a few people who helped me through this build first and foremost
Bmachinerc for set up tips and the chassis itself
Zzr 1100 racer for letting me drive at worlds and a killer set up to follow even if he is a rich eccentric guy that just goes on vacations weekly to crawl in foreign countries
Eddie at crawler innovations for always hooking me up
Barry at ccc for carbon arms
Troy winnerone23 for derin cases lightweight ideas entertainment /putting up with me and the wheels
E.ydesigns for cool parts and tire ideas
Krazed builds/robbob for tips and cool parts
Sam calderwood for coming out of hiding just long enough to make my link mounts Muahahahahahah...
matt at ottsix for killer tires and deep discounts
And bcbrian/lattice innovations for being my team captain and making parts PURPle for me ......

I really appreciate all the help guys .... This is why I'm part of this forum for all the knowledge and friends I've made along the way

I went through the trouble of Swiss cheesing some vp motor plates and they were light .... But then I see robbob making carbon ones for sale so let's compare

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

Well I'm waiting for paint to dry I guess I'll keep going ... I was looking at the classifieds one day and saw egressor selling a one piece hollow rear axle he had made ... No one bit on it for a day or so and I was reading the thread where he created it and said damn I better buy that because he makes crazy stuff.... So I messaged him and purchased it ..... It sat in my xr bin for a while knowing I was going to use it " some day" ... My reptile is 3.6 pounds rtr and I said the remedy needs to be lighter ..... The reptile has creeper bob ti rear shafts and hr lw final gear with wraith lock outs .... And that's exactly what the egressor was designed after .... So here's the weight of the normal pats vs the one piece

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...f1bde98289.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...0000442b08.jpg

and let's throw a rc4wd locker up there for comparison http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...f111512291.jpg

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

Now the gears were tricky .... I was under the impression the hot racing gears were the lightest http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...f2b06aadff.jpg

and after some drilling

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...5a0942343e.jpg

i saved some weight

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...da0ee658d7.jpg

.....BUT ..... I was amazed when I started weighing all my gear sets and found some of the rc4wd light weight gears were lighter ...

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...32edf08302.jpg

..... So I threw those all in the press instead and took a bit off

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...307e971953.jpg....

I guess there's still plenty of meat but better to be safe than sorry .... I left room for machining and drilling later if need be ... Used a hot racing final for the front axle as well

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

I spent all the money on ceramic bearings instead of my traditional fast eddies because I heard they were lighter ...... To say the least I wasn't impressed for triple the money ..... But hey at least they are strong http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...31394ce045.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...41af722e99.jpgi used ceramic throughout but didn't compare them all because I have custom sizes and what not that aren't normally found in an xr ... With all the custom bearings I spent 110 bucks .... Ouch

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

So after buying the motor plates and talking to robbob I was creeping his thread and saw that he had hollowed out his ti gear shafts and seeing as though I'm as crazy I did the same .... He also makes these pimp delrin bushings to replace the small bearing on a xr axle because of plastic axle tops so I bought a couple of those as well http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...295ff61e4b.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...d23a5b470f.jpg

theres the longer rear shaft ....

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...340d0959b7.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...dfeda024fb.jpg

and the shorter front shaft.....

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...95d7c4f37c.jpg

the delrin bushing is a really slick idea ... Smooth and rigid ... Very little drag

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

Went ahead and lightened some vp link mounts but they are still heavy

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...84c5a8f444.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...04d00817e6.jpg

saved quite a bit of weight off a normal vp link mount but nothing compared to stock plastic mounts

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...955d07e57c.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...1d9247f713.jpg

so with that raining on my parade I decided to go with some calderwood mounts ... Super light and tons of adjustment/mounting options

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...e1866ad503.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...2169c51c40.jpg

even light enough to make me happy ....

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

Gear boxes assembled now it's time for cases .... Vp obviously too heavy but stock plastic isn't baller enough ... Troy mentioned he had some delrin ones so I bought them ... A little heavier than plastic axial ones but stronger for piece of mind ... Larger bearings ..... So I smoothed them out a bit to save a few grams

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...e0caab09a3.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...ce600f9d68.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...da29c0b4e3.jpg

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

I don't have any pics but I removed the bulge in the super 300s upper shaft by the uni ...2 reasons .... Wanted to run a bearing in the axle and saved a ton of weight ..... I sand blasted some knuckles and chubs and sent them to bc Brian for anodizing went with strc chubs because they are way lighter than vp

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...2d8501fdb0.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...c1c33a8e1e.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...19fee31bbe.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...f82ad6d1f3.jpg

.... I know I know .... All this time and money and I use strc .... I'm sorry but every gram counts

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

You all know the PURP is a brood guy...... I have quite a collection of them mostly vapors but recently it picked up 2 sets of stubbys from Erik dlux and figured I'd use them on this build and another lightweight berg I'm building the first motor is a vapor with all the lightweight options money can buy

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...72a46e128e.jpg

And here's a stubby

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...bace732f3e.jpg

mind you the stubby has a hardened steel rc4wd pinion attached ..... That's almost an oz per motor in weight shaving

Hit up robbob again after seeing the electronics trays he was making ... Rowdy trays are pretty light http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...ab0b2f223d.jpg
BUT....http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...56eb4c1506.jpg

im gonna have to go with the carbon

Re: PURP builds a featherweight REMEDY

The shocks are a normal build up ... New o rings green slime 7mm machined pistons jeepin Doug retainers losi mrc/mini t springs ... Hot racing aluminum balls 35/75 weight losi silicone oil ... Rears aren't limited front are internally limited 6mm based upon recommendations from Stefan zzr racer... The shafts are from e.y .... I compared them to a stock scx shock ... The preload collars are shock caps cut down to rings .... http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...c4da4941a4.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...71772de927.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...8a7e0573b4.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...564bc2e428.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...d3458d099b.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...2ab3d2a5ee.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...b8803499df.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...46f698a37e.jpg
I don't really know anyone that runs stock scx shocks but that's a good savings ....
