I started out trying to save money as well but it is hard. the best way to save money on the parts is to have patience to find them used. Check the classifieds often as good used parts go quick. If you don't want to wait you will probably have to pay play unfortunately. Holmes Hobbies (HH) esc's and motors are top notch and have a few options for dual esc. I would go with the dual mini. Castle Creations is another good choice and is available from HH. Dlux is about the only option for axle weights unless you find some used ones. I'm no expert yet but this is what i have found.

What about the stock gears in the axle? Do i need to change them? And if so what do I buy?

The stockers will hold up for some time, you could even do the 'two bolt mod' to the rear to help. If you search the forums for Mike Reel you can find the orginal post about the mod. For fun crawls or just driving around theyre fine - if you start binding the truck up and really putting some twist into the axles youll blow the bearings or gears if not both. You can still buy the Axial HD gears separately - I would get the locker and the smaller gear on top of that first. You can also buy the Hot Racing gears, stock on those is sometimes up and down. | |

Really there is only 3 gears you need to worry about breaking in both axles... the small 12 tooth in the gearbox, the 22 tooth above the spool will break. There are traxxas bushings you can put in the gear box because the bearings fail immediately. The biggest thing will be keeping the axle halves from splitting, once it splits because the screws are threaded into plastic then the gears jump and snap! even on carpet. If it will hold up on carpet it will pretty much hold up on carpet I have everything you need. brass inserts, 30mm long bolts to run all the way thru the rear axle from top to bottom, better chassis, cheap links that are not ti. that you can do yourself. pretty much what Robbob says but I already have everything together

Thanx to Robob and barrybelvedere. I have ordered the firestarter chassie from a local Company X3Mcrawl. But the other mods sounds interesting. Do you have a website barrybelvedere? |
