Default XR10 steering linkage

OK folks I have been lurking and reading for a while. I bought a used XR10, it seems to be in good shape for the most part. However, the hole that the tierod attaches to on one end of the steering slider is stripped. I have a new slider ordered, however, I got to wondering the following things.

1.) Is this a common problem?

2.) If it is common, should I replace the slider and tierods with one longer turnbuckle, or is there a better way of repairing/modifying it?

That is what I was thinking. The slider is ordered but won't be in until Friday. I doubt I will be able to go pick it up till Saturday. But if I can source the parts to make a straight link locally before then it's on, and I can keep the slider in my range bag.

Any sugestions on what to make the link out of?

Why don't you like it, I am on the same path once my revo rod ends come in.

Just don't like the way it looked. I made a link using some graphite tubing and all thread ends. Looks much cleaner and has held up to some hard hits. I modded the axial housing and can run the link behind the axial.
